Possibly, but why chance your trans when Summit sells B&M transmission coolers that are proven to lower trans temp. Plus, they are less than $50.

Yes, but you need to be sure the compressor oil is out of it, and there are much better (more efficient) trans. coolers on the market.

If not B&M try and find a factory cooler out of a GW that had the tow package in it. Cooler mounts on radiator moutns nicely. I might have an extra in the closet.

the factory trans cooler is pretty cheesy. the straps holding it togeher let go in my old 88. this allowed it to flex til it cracked and caused a major leak. i replaced it with an aftermkt unit that i had in my 84. i have no idea of its origin as it was a gift from my brother.

i was looking some aftermarket ones from parts store and they just looked small and wimpie and i dont like how they mount up with zip ties. not my idea of solid. was just looking for other ideas

i ran a ac condensor for a cooler when i was running an auto. it doesnt get much better,IMO-the surface area is huge smile.gif if the fins are in good shape,it should be way better than about any factory or aftermarket cooler. also there are no cheasy zip ties holding it on,you can bolt it on.

i also ran a remote,spin on filter.

all i did was spray a bunch of brake kleen thru it and i ran it for a long time with no noticeable affect on the tranny

the only downfall is that since it covers the whole radiator, you are drawing alot more heat into the radiator cooling air. it did cause my engine temp to run alittle hotter in the summer

That's a good cooler. Its built like a radiator. They dissapate more heat than a tube cooler.

I'd like to find a ling skinny tranny cooler. One that's about 5 inches tall and around 30 inches long. I want to mount it behind a tube front bumper and keep it out of the way of the radiator, since I'll be running a propane 401 bored .060 over with high compression. Anyone know of anything like this? The closest I've found would be a tube cooler that advertise being mounted next to the rocker panels. My exhaust will route through that area, and I can see how that might actually put heat INTO the tranny.

Long ago, a motorcycle magazine tested oil coolers. The stacked plate design (B&M) coolers were much more efficient than the tubular types.

I used the condensors for my demolition derby cars, and they worked great. One problem is that the connections do not hold up to pressure very well. I found out the hard way.. I mounted it behind the driver seat, about 2/3 throught the derby pisssssst. All over me, and that fluid what HOT!! I even flared the lines, used two clamps, strong hose. You name it I did it.
