I'm pretty proud of myself. I put new rear rear brakes on, changed a bad fuel sender without blowing myself up, and generally farted around the Jeep for a coupla days...Without blowing myself up! :D

I took the jack out of the GW to get at some jumper cables when...Uh oh, the jack compartment was half full of water!!!
Ohmygosh!!! I drilled thru the panel from underneath. I never knew it could hold that much H2O!!! Wag owners beware.
Peace!

No prob mine came with rustholes in place.
As a matter of fact I had to seal em up
to keep the mice out.I can still say with confidence "its not water tight".

Um, there are factory drainholes that usually get gummed up with road-grime. Usually you can poke them clean with a twig.

There were holes with the little "scuppers" in my 84 but I could find none in my 87. Looked from top (after I drained/dried it and through the jack in the trash) and bottom. What gives? Another AMC assembly adjustment?

My '88 has them; I've had to clean them out regularly. They are somewhat trapezoidal in shape, just behind the wheelwell, IIRC. Anyway, they can be hard to see, but I doubt Jeep deleted them for a single year, so they're probably hiding in there somewhere...

I agree with Gary, find the leak and take care of it. When the quarters are replaced on Red, I'll make sure the seams are welded, seamed sealed, painted then coated with line-x.

If they fill up with water, I'll have another problem.

I don't think those quarters were designed to be perfectly waterproof, just mostly waterproof. After all, there is no sealant around the perimeter of that window gasket, there is a body-seam halfheartedly filled-in where the rear quarter meets the rear panel, and the water coming in from the wellnuts has to go SOMEWHERE... smile.gif

Or you could get clear plexiglass rear quarter panels and make a nice little aquarium for that area? Happy goldfish, and four-wheeling, sounds like a nice match.. <jk>

Thanks for the FYI, I will check em out tonight, I have an 87 Wag, so, if I can find some drains, I'll let ya know where they are...

Or, I can confirm that, in fact, for some reason, there was a shortage of skilled drain-hole drillers in the AMC factories...

When I found the aquarium in my quarter panels my seams and windows looked good. After a little testing I found the water coming in are both the taillights and the sidemarkers. FYI

drat!! got home too late yesterday to have a gander into the wells, twas far too dark by 7:00pm in Vallejo, and I have far too many appliances in the garage at the moment to have brought her in to check it under the light...

Will investigate over the weekend, and report back....

My leak occured where the gas filler tube goes thru the sheetmetal, a bead of black RTV solved that one. I also cleaned out the holes and got some new rubber flap thingies from the dealer that cover the holes smile.gif
