Is it actually a cable on that model or rods and linkage?

It was my understanding that 72 was the only year the Jtrucks had cable clutch linkage and I have never seen replacement parts available. Sending jeepmj_tj an email... Thanks.

Flint,
My J series parts catalog shows it being available in 71 & 72.

Thanks Patrick. From what I have seen in Chilton's, this is the same or similar to one used in Jeepsters around the same time period. You know anything about that?

Don't know about that since my catalog is just for the J series. They show different parts numbers for the I6 and V8 installations though so it may be possible.

OK, thanks again.
jeepmj_tj ordered one for his project and I'll wait and see how it works out. Krista's dad's J4600 has this contraption and it is all but worn out.

My stepson and I just rebuilt the brackets for his 72 today, they are quite flimsy and pulled the cable through the floor braket earlier today, it was toast, the cable buisness seems to work pretty good, but I prefer the rod linkage to the hydraulic or the cable, seems to have less trouble.

Wonder if the old AA replacement for the CJ's would work or could be adapted to the FSJ?

Advance Adapters used to make a replacement for the cable setup on the CJ. Used a chain around a toothed gear. Don't remember all of it, but the cable CJ guys swore by it. I just looked and they catalog a linkage for the 46 to 70 CJ for $138, but no pic or description, that might be it.

It's a cool kit. But like you said no pic. Here is the link:

Back when I was poor I built my own using the chain, hardware, and sprocket from an old electric garage door opener. Occasionally, (maybe 2-3 times in 5 years) the chain would break. No biggie, I always kept master links with me. Mine was a small bicycle type chain, The Advance kit uses a much beefier motorcycle-sized chain.
Problem is the FSJ frame is way wider then the early CJs. The kit mounts to the frame. So you would have to fab up some sort of bracket to get the chain and sprocket assembly closer to the drivetrain. I have no idea what the FSJ clutch cable-type pedal assembly looks like so I don't know how easy it would be to adapt it all together.
