There's a bracket on the back of the driver's side head held on by one bolt. It holds some vacuum lines and shift linkage that hooks to the throttle. Mine's loose and I can't manage to get any wrench in my tool box in the small space to tighten it. Any advise?
Thanks,
Dave

That is one B@$+@rd of a bolt!!! I wrestled with that one forever on my GW.

IIRC, that has a 5/8" head, but virtually no space to get a socket between the head and the firewall, but the bracket leaves no room to get a box-end on it, and you can't get the angle to use an open-end on it.

I ended up prying the bulge of that bracket away from the bolt head, using a very short 3/8"-drive 5/8" socket to start loosening it, then switching to a box wrench to get it out.

If what you need to do is tighten it, then probably a short 5/8" socket, maybe a cheapie $.99 tiawan piece cut down to be deep enough to just take the head of the bolt. You may have to pry the bracket away from the bolt head to fit it on there.

That is certainly one of those things that a factory-worker used an impact-gun to install before the body was dropped on the chassis, without any consideration for how it would ever be serviced.

You're right about that bolt, Bob. When I pulled the heads I had to remove the head first and carefully twist it to get a breaker bar on that bolt, took a whole day of swearing to get it loose. I even thought about trying to go through the firewall. When I put it back together I had to wait until after I set the had on the new gasket. I tightened it as best I could but I guess I forgot about it. I just don't want it to fall out.
Good idea about a short socket, I'll look for one today. Thanks,
Dave
