Found one vacuum hose I missed when I put my intake back on. I labeled it Vac ball to intake, but don't remember to where on the intake it goes. Can anyone tell me? It's an 83 with a 258.

Thanks.

Stick the hose on the vac reservoir and move the other end of the hose around. An open vac nipple should be somewhere within reach of the hose?

I was looking around, but failed to find an open nipple (besides a dual nipple plug coming off the side of the intake, but I'm pretty sure it was like that when I bought it. Just junk emissions crap).

I'll have to pull the air cleaner and see if I can't find a spot.

Also, I have two plugs on the top of the intake. One in front of the carb and one behind. Both have metal threaded stud style connectors. Which one is the temp sender?

Normally, the vacuum ball provides vacuum for the tcase shifter (for those that need it) and the heater/defrost controls. The ball helps provide steady vacuum source when the engine is changing rpm.

Anyone remember vacuum operated wipers? :D

Oh, sorry guy, I don't know the six well enough to remember where that hose connects. It's like a 5/16" or 3/8" hose right?

The one to the rear of the carb should be the temperature sender....although mine is on the head. I believe the one in front is a knock sensor. as far as the vacuum line goes. its hard to say....look under the carb on the manifold, where the power brake booster vacuum goes in....I believe there is a nipple there with manifold vacuum. However, if somebody in the past has changed your vac lines, its hard to say. I will try to take some pics monday if you still need them.

my vac ball gets vaccuum from a nipple behind the air cleaner.. probably just the last place to check, right? ;)

Usually any loose vacuum hose is accompanied by a whistle at idle. Find out what's whistling atcha and put the hose to it. Otherwise it's possible that the connection was lost when some antipollution garbage was removed...in which case pull any pipe plug that enters the intake and stick on a hose barb, and there's a home for the wayward line.

Yep! A reservoir that receives vacuum through a check valve and stores it for "domestic" use.

Just to explain my "tantrum", folks, if you are old enough to recall those miserable wipers the big problem with them was they would work verrrrrry slooooowwwwllllly at WOT conditions such as when climbing a hill--or not work a-tall if the vacuum booster diaphragm that was part of the fuel pump assembly had perforated.

Also all too often the air intake on the wiper motor would get blocked with accumulated dirt, or the handiwork of a mud-dauber wasp. Vacuum operated wipers needed frequent maintenance to keep them at their best. Otherwise they were a serious safety hazard.

Another thing I recall that was not too pleasant was that some cars could be a bear to start if the operator had not "parked" the wipers before the engine was stopped the last time the car was used.

Ahh what a mess, glad I went to TBI on my YJ :D

Possible places?
- side middle of intake (where power brake booster normally connects...my 258 has 2 nipples there)
- top back of intake @ cyl. 6
- one of 2 manifold vac sources at the back right of the carb at the base
