No wonder these fsj's are so expensive to work on ...it's all the little "while your in there" things. well anyways anybody got any recomendations for shocks about 3" over stock for a 73 j-4000, what'll work as in 74 chevy 1/2 ton pu shocks or what have you, the originals are shot out and I'm putting in a add-a leaf "while I'm at it" would like to buy off the shelf at discount/autozone rather than order and wait 3-5 days and spend mucho dinero.

The PO put in Monroe's but Iv'e been thinking of what to replace with.Speaking of Chevy's,I put a set of Gabriel VST's on my dad's '73 Super Cheyenne. They have a very good ride, made a real difference in the truck. To me a good choice for on road driving w/some off(which is what i do).But they may be to short with a lift over 2".Also maybe Rancho RS5000.I like their rep and don't need adjustable feature of the RS9000.

I've been driving Dutch's stock-height '87 Grand Wag for three weeks now, and the Rancho 5000 shocks are about rattling my teeth out. I really miss the Edelbrock IAS shocks on my own GW, but it'll be a while until the frame-off resto is done and I can use them again. BTW, I installed a set of Gabriel VST on the J10, and they're a pretty nice ride. I'm sure these Rancho shocks are more of what you would want for off-roading, but about the closest I get to that is jumping curbs and shrubbery to find the quickest way out of a shopping mall parking lot!
