I'm in the middle of a whirlwind working trip through the PNW. I'm relettering a fleet of cable trucks - 2 states, 7 cities, 80 trucks in 10 days- Whew! Is it always this damp out here?
Anyway - there's a lot more FSJ's out here than there are in Michigan. I've seen several in my travels. I've only been able to get photos of these two: These anybody here?
The orange Chief was in Depoe Bay, OR. Looked like a young family in it. A pretty clean original from the looks of it.
The second is a very clean early '80's Waggy Bragham. It was parked at Lewis County Fleet Services in Chehalis (or Napavine) WA with a service tag hanging on the mirror.
I've still got several stops on this trip - all in Washington - Renton, Port Townsend, Bellingham, Duval, Chelan, and back to Renton then home.
I had made a rental car reservation for this trip and just asked for a compact car - they said it would be a Dodge Caliber or similar. When I went to pick it up, they were out of compacts. I was picking it up in Portland and dropping it off in Seattle, and they had a cat that needed to go back up there, so they upgraded me at no charge to a Chrysler Sebring. When I got out to the lot, it was a convertible! Naturally it hasn't quit raining yet...
It's BEAUTIFUL out here. I'll be back with my family sometime for a REAL vacation.

Ha Ha.. A convertible in the PNW in October.. Thats funny...
There is about 10-15 days a year up here where a convertible would be nice.. You missed them all. Dont expect to see the sun for about 7-8 months...
I am barely making a joke.. It really is that bad...
BTW, I am in Puyallup/Tacoma at the moment..

Yep, you just missed the only 2 days of summer we usually get. Supposed to be wet all this next week.
Two advantages to it though- we are now out of fire season, and we don't have to shovel the stuff:D

i can't believe they actually rent convertibles here. must be some paper pusher in another state making that call!
too bad you weren't here a few weeks ago, it was actually really nice out here. its just hitting rainy season and i'm already sick of it.
i'm just southwest of portland, next time wave when you swing through!

After all the doom and gloom that the weather people were forcasting for today, it was actually pretty nice here in Seattle (Renton, actually). If I hadn't had so much work to do I could'a put the top down and gone for a cruise this afternoon. We'll see what tomorrow brings...

I'm in Renton until tomorrow (Tuesday), but I'll be back here Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Where do you work in Renton? I'm working at an office building on Oaksdale Drive.

Arlington, here. But I see about 4 different daily drivers on a weekly basis. Haven't had much of a chance to track any of 'em down and talk, but sure would like to.
Working out in Monroe I've been seeing 3 pull through the parking lot as daily drivers.
Really need to start a group out here.....
Frank, sorry I missed ya. I've been in/out of town and mostly out. Was hoping to maybe catch up with you in Depoe Bay since I was in the area and my bike tries hard to find/hit every rain drop on the coast and the OR coast is a good place for finding rain. I'm sure you noticed. :)
Got your phone messages though but late...seems I never turn my cell phone on but every few days unless I need to make a call which is rarely. Sorry bout dat. I hate cell phones almost as much as TV.
Hope you can make back up here again though. Try summer next year...I hear it's on a Wednesday next year?
"But it's a dry rain" ;)

Joe-
Yeah, Sorry I missed you too.
My free time has been pretty unpredictable so it's been hard to plan anything ahead.
I drove over to Nordland when I left Port Hadlock, just to look around. It's beautiful there! I can see why you'd want to live there.
I'll be back in this area for a REAL vacation someday soon!
if u cross over the boarder there are a few of us serious FSJ'er here on Vancouver Island :fsj:

Sounds like there might be a trip to the island for me in the future. What type of wheeling you got up there?

Do it. I haven't been wheeling there but made a couple of motorcycle trips there. Drop dead gorgeous island full of down to earth folks. Do it.
If I had to live in Kanukistan it'd be on Van Isle.

Been to Victoria, but never roamed the island.
How about on the peninsula? I have family over in PT and remember doing a bunch of backroad driving with my dad when I was little over there, but nothing in the recent years.
The pen is good too. Lotsa FS roads you can literally spend days on. But...the Olympics are like the Cascades and the snow level is down to 3000 - 3500 ft or so. Little late this time of year....
I was up at Lk Cushman and the Staircase(Hoodsport area) area a couple days ago and rode the bike through fresh slush. :(
I'm more into exploring the bush alone than hardcore all day at 1.3 mph, 20 rigs in line trying to get over a rock wheeling group/herd thingie so I can't help on "hardcore" places to go.

"Hardcore" isn't what I'm usually looking for. I like being able to look at the top of a hill, across a valley, field, etc. and thinking... I wonder If I could find a way over there...
Meg is set up to explore areas normally inaccessable to most rigs. Not to go out planning on body damage. And for some reason I just love playing in the snow.
we get next to nothing for snow here ...tons and tons of lakes ,,, rivers ...ect ... can camp right on the lakes edge or on the river ,,ect .. we have miles and miles of roads ,,, ands hills and valleys for u ...
and there is also some extreme off roadin here also ,,
for sure keep intouch when yr coming up
$%^# @*&% Slim Van Isle is my secret special riding place....hush! :)
I'm gonna learn dirt riding one'a these days and then hit the dirt roads there too. The chip seal ones are great though. It's a beautiful island for sure. Can't beat the folks there either.
Takin the the Black Ball(M/V Coho) over though w/o ties downs makes the boat ride a bit iffy for a bike in 6ft side seas. :(
The only two things I've really found bad about V.I. (ok 3 counting gas prices) is getting over there and the border gestapo getting back. Is your's a dry rain too? :)

Any group gatherings in the NW should be a greenlight!! Let's get something going.
