Quick question on GW hitches.
My GW came with a hitch manufactured by Drawtite but it seems like it hangs down below the vehicle more than it should. See attached pics.
Does anyone have a picture of what a factory class 3 hitch looks like?

That looks about right to me... I don't see how it could tuck up much tighter and be a 2" receiver. Now if it was a class II, one of the small ones, then it could be tucked up tighter. I'll have a factory one here next week, but not now. If you still need a pic then I can get you one.

That's right where it's supposed to be. Looks the same as on my '88

I agree. That's right where it should be. It's great for protecting your rear overhang on the rocks. That's actually why I got a hitch first, before I ever had anything to pull with it!

Thanks.
For some reason I remember the factory hitch on my father's 78 narrow track being more triangular shaped (class 3 factory hitch) but this is a recollection from 25 years ago - my mind may be playing tricks on me again.

I have one like you're speaking of on my Cherokee NT. It DOES tuck up a lot tighter. I'm replacing it with a class III receiver style though. I need a drop hitch now that it's about 10 inches higher than it used to be. If you click on my pics you might be able to see it... and to see if it's like the one you're speaking of.

The one I was thinking of was actually a class 3 receiver.

I have a stock class II on my 91 and it is triangular, and doesnt protrude down at all...

I have a class III on my 88 and it looks exactly like that.

I have never seen a class III different from the one pictured above.

My '91 GW has a class three hitch, but not with the 2" receiver. It is triangulated like you say, and has a lower profile than the drawtite hitches, but isn't quite as useful. With no way to add a drop, it doesn't work well with all trailers. Also, you can't use any of the nifty racks that you can pop into a receiver. I plan to remove it at some point and install one with a receiver.

I think drawtite has best design for FSJs. This one has been protecting the rearend of my GW since 98. :D Plus it can really handle a load.

The one you got coming is the same height but it's closer to the bumper, I would say about 1 or 2" in from the bumper if not flush with it.
It's been a couple of years since I pulled it but it felt tucked in perfect and still protecting the rear overhang.
