Looked at a 73 1/2 ton today in the boneyard. Has an aux tank in it that has the filler on the drivers side, rear. Has a fill pipe shield screwed to the inner box side. Tank bolts through the box floor. Tank is 27 1/2 " long, 29 1/2 " wide, 10 " deep from the bottom of the bed crossmember. Overall capacity is around 8112 c.i., and IIRC from school at 231 c.i. per gal., would be right at 35 gal. Will fit under a wag or chero, with slight exhaust mods, and hang about even with the bottom of a stock reciever hitch. My hitch is off a 91 and the measurement from the bottom of the floor crossmember to the bottom of the hitch is right at 10 ".
Another option for a replacement tank....:)

Sounds cool for your Cherokee -and- sounds a lot better than the in-the-cab auxilliary tank I found mounted behind the seat of my J4000 when I bought it. The filler neck for that thing ran up and out the B pillar with a junction valve mounted below the driver's floor.

nice find art! are you keeping it for your cherk?

I have my aux tank mounted behind the seat. Looks like it was perhaps a dealer install (same time as my PTO winch). The tank is an 18 gallon tank OEM to a pre-72 GM truck. Since the fuel return line only runs to the under bed tank, I have to use it first, otherwise it is a perfect setup.

If the capacity is right (my math isn't what it used to be;) ), it would be the perfect replacement for the coffin tank. Would have to clip a couple of inches off a corner to clear the tailpipe at the right front corner, and fab up a skid plate for it. Nothing that a little scrap .120 won't fix along with a wash out and the mig at work. Got to find out what he wants for it. Think I can use the stock filler on the chero, and just route the hoses to the fill on the truck tank.
Anyone know if my figures on c.i. per gal are correct?? (231 c.i. = 1 us gal.)

Math looks good. :) You get a happy face on your math problem.
1 cubic foot is = 7.48 gallons.
1,728 cubic inches in a cubic foot.
8112 divided by 1728 = 4.694 cubic ft.
4.694 x 7.48 = 35.111 gallons.

I'm pondering whether to install an aux fuel tank under the J10. Tank & skid plate, filler & hoses are off of a CJ-7, will fit nicely. Even have an electronic tank selector valve. I think I'm just trying to avoid doing the work.
