I have a 2bbl on my 360 78 J10. I have a chance to put a 4bbl on her. What all is involved? Should I do it? Would there be any benefit? Do I need to change anything else?

Depends on what you are after. Performance will be increased in the Higher RPMs when the Secondary's open. What type of 4 BBL are you getting? What intake manifold are you going to use?

I have a chance at a carb from a 78 401. Do I need to change the intake manifold or will an adapter do?

That will be a motorcraft 4350. You will need to get the intake as well. It can be done with an adapter but the performance is hindered considerably. Personally unless the 4350 is in new condition. I would save the headache and buy an aftermarket intake and carb.

I can get the carb for about 40.00 I can probably get the intake also. I don't know the cost of that.

Well, I would have an intake if you decide this is the way you want to go, and can not get one.

My 78 Cherokee has a 360 with a 4 bbl. I was thinking even if it wouldn't work on the J10 for the money I would have a back up for my Cherokee. Question: is the 4 bbl on my Cherokee a 4350?

Yes most likely if it has not been swapped.

Cool, I was told the carb on my J10 is from a ford. From the books I have it resembles a Carter type. Could it be from a ford or is it a Carter?

It is of a Ford version. ;)

Sorry neither of those looks like the carb on my J10. She's a 2bbl with a hose from the top of the bowl to the charcoal canister.

Oh sorry I thought we were talking the 4350, your J10 will have a Motorcraft 2150

Were the 2150 & 4350 the only carbs available on the 78 360's?

Well the 2100 must have also been used since I have one on my 78 (assuming it's original) and I know it's a 2150 for the most part without the altitude compensator, just thought I'd throw this out there.

M1,
I got the stock manifold with an adapter to a Holley 4bbl. It works good just you can put anything other than the 4350 on it without an adapter.
If you can get it cheap go for it.
