Racheting Tie Downs/Straps

Its time to buy some new tie downs - biggest thing I have to tie down is an ATV, but I've used straps in the past for just about everything else.

I admit I can't tie knots, so the rachet design has been a blessing and I will be sticking to the rachet design.

What would you reccomend on a tie down with good holding power, long life, exposure to sun only when in transit, and well taken care of?

Current tie downs are rated at 1400 lbs - not sure if thats static or dynamic strength but I would like to not go anything less than that.

For an ATV those are probably a decent size, but if you've got something bigger in mind, go with a minimum of 5000 lb per strap, 10,000 lb is obviously better if you're going to trailer your FSJ.

For ATV's, just go to Harbor Freight and get several of the 1400lb straps... They are by far the cheapest place to get them.. I have been using them for years, and have never had any problems. If in doubt, just use more.

I have even used them to tie down a ZJ on a trailer before. Granted, I used 9 of them, but they worked just fine.

I completely agree on the ATV being sufficient for the 'little' tie downs. But the Jeep will be trailered and strapped down with racheting load binders, or bigger straps.

Sam's has a 4 pack of 1-1 1/2" wide straps that have way better ratchets than the HF cheapies, also where I get my car tie downs, they have 2" 10k ratchet straps for about $13-14 each.

better yet get to a industrial surplus store and buy the ratchets and straps and make your own or have an upholsterer sew them up for you whatever length you want.

Long time no see bro! I dunno what the load ratings are, thinking 10Klbs but I always use the trucker flat-bed style ratcheting straps. Secured the tow-bar to the J10 with 'em, wierd part is that's the way Reese designed that tow bar:confused: Held up well tho.

If I'm holding something important like one of the Kawasaki street bikes then I use my Ancra straps. They are by far the best I've ever used.
On the car trailer I have 4 - 15,000 lb rated straps.
For straping down tree limbs and such on one of the trailers or Jeep parts in the bed of the truck I use those cheapy "off the shelf braand" ratcheting straps. Get the bright orange ones so you will be able to spot them easier in the dark.
I've never lost a load yet..

I will be going to chains and binders on the car trailer after this winter. I don't trust my straps much anymore they are 3 years old now.
