View Full Version : Newbie question.
Please forgive me if these questions have been asked a million times. I was born/raised around Jeeps, CJ's that is. Honestly do not know a whole lot about FSJ's. What is the difference between a J-10, J-3000, J-4000 etc.???
Thanks!!!
The J-200/2000, J-300/3000 and J-4000 are all wheelbase length specific. Roughly 120", 126" 132" respectively. All or any could be had as 1/2 ton, 3/4 tons etc depending on model. J-4500(5000 GVWR, J-4600 6000 GVWR etc). In 74 they changed to the J-10 and J-20 badges. J-10s could come in 2 wheelbase lengths 126" or 132" but all J-10's are 1/2 tons and all J-20's are 3/4 tons but the j-20 only came in the 132" wheelbase length.
ok what about this? my truck is a j-3000 but it says the gvw is 8000
That's a J-3800. It's the only oddball to the above rule. All J-3000(J-3500/3600/3700) are 126" wheelbase except the J-3800. The J-3800's wheelbase was 132" It'll have a "Z" as fith digit of the VIN. The J-3800's only came in two flavors, the 8000 GVWR Camper Truck(D60 rear/4.10 gears) and the DRW model rated at 8600 GVWR(D70 rear/4.88 gears).
That's a fairly rare truck ya got there. Most of the 8000 GVWR Z models came with a factory frame mounted camper. Not a slip in but a full frame mount. Yours have the camper or a PU box on the back? Does it have 6-hole wheels on 7.5" spacing?
