I've done this once in the past.. and like an idjit I did it again..
Anyways.. I pulled dist out "points" put in BID "breakerless induction" and module.
When I had the dizzy out the motor got turned.. "yuck"
anyways.. I know I can set it to TDC and HOW.. but jeep still seems like it doens't want to start after putting engine at TDC COMPRESSION stroke and putting dist in pointing to number one wire on cap/rotor. I've read a few things that say this shouldn't be too much of a problem but it's driving me nuts. Any ideas?
Mind you I have spark from coil and everything is wired the best I know how "the BID dizzy has two wires both black" I assumed it doesn't matter how they are connected. however my next thing will be to swap those two wires and see if that fixes it. "tonight" Thanks for any input..

If you've got the distributor in right and not 180 degrees out then it is probably only a matter of turning the distributor back and forth a little to get the timing in the ball park where it will at least start.

That stinks!
Heck, if all else fails, just make sure that you have the wires hooked up in proper firing order (check two or three times 15min or more apart just to be sure) and loosen the Distributor and turn it slowly VERY slowly while a helper cranks the engine. Eventually, even if you have to turn the Dizzy a full 360 degrees, that sucker should fire!
If the dizzy won't go all the way around because the wires won't let it, then turn it as much as you can with in the range that the wires will let it, then move all the wires one post clockwise or counter clockwise and do it again. Keep doing this until you've done it 8 times, and if the engine doesn't fire, you got some other problem.
If you have a starter-charger, hook it up before you start!
Hope this helps, I've had to do it this way a couple of times, it stinks but it works!
Matt
EDIT>>>>>> pull a plug wire and put it next to the engine block to make sure your spark is making it all the way to the plug! If you've checked it at the coil might be getting lost in the dizzy somewhere!

Don't waste your time...
MSD complete distributor MSD8519
http://www.msdignition.com/dist_42.htm
Mallory Unilite complete distributor 8523

Either way you can drop the outdated BID and build her up when the cash becomes available, and still be running sweet in the meantime...

joe, kinda goes back to the 200.00 part for the 600.00 jeep problem.. I just need this thing on the road for a few months.. when cj's up and running good I'll put more dough into this.. probably TFI or similar. I'd really like a single wire setup like HEI. I'm prety sure I didn't have it 180 out.. and since I went by manual for plug wires on dizzy cap I should be fine. I'll check spark at wires in a bit..
thanks fo the help!

There are HEI conversion kits on ebay, pretty cheap, or grow your own. I don't know about the 360 though. I have only seen it for the 6's thus far. If it gets bad let me know. I have very thick Motor book that goes very indepth on BID troubleshooting. Let me know, gimme your # and I'll buzz you. Good luck, my a%$ is still kicked from the exact same ignition system.

Old Gray Ghost, They do make HEI for V8 but it requires turning down a chevy dizzy on lathe and a few other things.. There is one on Ebay last time I checked the bid it was 160.00 and there is a buy it now one for 250.00 :(
If I can find the specs I may be able to get the lathe time to turn one down. "that would be nice"
I didn't feel like wrench turning last night so I'll hit it again today hehe.
