I was at the local pick-n-pull today and there was a Scout in there with what looked like a Dana 20 t/c. Do these have the same 2.03:1 low range as the one in my Jeep? How can I tell if it was a Dana 300?

Don't know about the ratio's, but here's some good pics of a Jeep D300. D300 pics (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=597906110)
Hope this helps,

the scout 20 does have the same ratio as the jeep 20. you can tell a scout d300 by the headlights smile.gif the only year youll find the 300 in a scout is 1980,which is also the only year to have square headlights. however, people do swap stuff,so next best way is to check the rear output housing, and the shift tower with a magnet.the d300 will have these parts in aluminum. if the magnet sticks to em,theyre iron and the case is a d20 :(
one more little tidbit: the scout 20 shares the exact "texas" pattern as the jeep 20. the scout 300 shares this pattern as well, but is missing the very bottom bolt,so if the xfer has all 5 mouting bolts like your jeep, then its a 20.
last and not least, heres a link with some pics of a scout 300:

if it is a d300, i hope it was attached to a t14 or t19 manual trnas, otherwise youll still have to locate an input gear before you can bolt it into your jeep in place of a d20. the 727 uses a unique 23 spline input gear that will not interchange with the jeep 20s 6 spline input gear.

I've got a D20 from a Chevy Blazer with a 2.3? low range, it would be a nice swap for a D18 or D20. I don't know if the gears will swap in the Jeep case though.

I was there for work, so I couldn't look at it for too long, but I do know it was behind a manual tranny. It has been raining lots and lots around here the past couple days, so I didn't get under it to look at it REALLY close. It was just a thought...I'll have to go back and investigate further.

Scotty
From what I understand they were in late 60's and early 70's Blazers. The one I have has a 3 speed Muncie attached to it. I don't know if they put them in anything else, I'll call my buddy at GM and see if he can give me anymore information.
