I recieved my Nor-Cal trail book today "Guide to Northern California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails" by Charles A. Wells.

Great book so far (although I've just been flipping through really!) and now I'm thinking about exploring some different trails this weekend.

I am attempting to convince the wife to head North to hit the "Lost Coast, Redwoods" area, starting near Leggett CA, which looks to start near Leggett CA (never heard of the place) and continues North a ways along the coast, bringing you near Eureka. We won't go that far North of course, as we will really only have a day or so for the trip.

Next month, instead of trying to check out some of the Rubicon when we head to South Lake Tahoe, I think we are going to Blackwood Canyon, Ellis Peak area for some wheeling just near the Rubicon. It looks in the book to be a pretty fun family adventure. Probably be lots of fun, having my bro & his GF with him. I was really trying to get my buddy to bring his '78 Bronco, although he recently overheated his 460 & now it needs some work :banghead:

Of course, all plans subject to change with advise :) I'll be taking notes & pictures all along the way.

I've heard of the road on the Lost Coast you are talking about. I believe it is called Usal Rd. and will take you up to Shelter Cove. I haven't done it but have sure heard about it. It's on my list of place to go(along with so many others), when time permits.

I have two of his books for other ereas and they are the best ones I have found. Just make sure your GPS is set to DATUM 27(I think, it says somewhere in his book) or his coordinates will be frustrating!

I do want to go south eventually... as time & $$$ permit. My plans are to go explore some of the So-Cal deserts, as well as Nevada... wherever I can afford to travel to in my rig (fuel here is a little pricey ;) )

So for now, North & East are the directions of choice. Of course, now it's supposed to rain here. Might make the Usal road a little bit more fun :) I just wonder how much gas I'm going to go through, Google maps estimates about a 2 1/2 hour drive (maybe longer, I only drive at 60 on the freeway).

Oh yeah, the seafood is pretty good out here at the Tides or Lucas Wharf ;)

Some of the best times of my life were spent exploring the Mojave, always a good time.:fsj:

I've really explored So. Nevada and want to explore No. Nevada, but my favorite area by far is the AZ strip! Its the chunk of Az that is north of the Grand Canyon and it is beautiful and there is no one out there! I'm working on a page about the area soon. I went with my dad in 99'(TJRON on other jeep sites-RIP) and I've made about 25 trips since then and still can't wait to go back!
