I used to have an impact wrench that you held in one hand and hit the end of it with a hammer. I'm in desperate need of one now for a very special application.

Do any of you know where I might find one? I got the one I used to have at one of those "tool sales" you see advertised in armories and high school gyms. I don't have a clue what happened to it.

I agree. They don't work real well. The one I had, however, DID work well and long enough for me to looses some screws on my 715. I don't think the twisting part of it did as much as me whacking it with the 3 lb hammer.

I'd recommend PB blaster, time, more PB blaster and as a last resort (if possible), HEAT.

Oh, I've PB blasted it... lol...

It's a phillips screw (four actually) in the front rotors of my Honda. They hold the rotors on. Well, we know what happens to phillips screws when we really try to crank on them. I had a similar situation in the past, and the combo of the turning plus the screwdriver fitting being seated deep in the screw as you whack it broke it loose.

Thanks for the tips and advice...

You should be able to get one at any good tool/hardware store. I use one at work during the fall and spring a couple times a day, and they work great.

It's called an impact driver. Got mine at sears, very useful for larger stubborn phillips.

get one with a 3/8 drive on it and you can use socket and such and not just hex drive on it, very useful tool to have.

I think harbor freight has them tho I can't vouch for the quality. The one I have is in pieces thanks to a heavy right hand :) And that one was from sears!

One good thing about spending the extra for a good quality one is the lifetime replacement. Snap-on, etc. is pricey, but you'll never have to buy one again! :D

My nephew brought me a bunch of stuff from my mom's house today (she lives several hours away; he has a diesel pickup and a large trailer; he brings me everything I need, God bless him). I opened one of the tool boxes and there mine was. I can finally get those new rotors on. Thanks for all the tips, though... at least I know where I can get one if this one breaks.

Anybody know where I can get bits... I found my driver, but all the bits were gone... they're bigger than standard...

Again Sears. But I dont know about your neck of the woods but most of the pawn shops around here have apretty great tool selection and I am willing to bet that you will find more than you are looking for.

I have the one from Harbor Freight, it works great and it was CHEEP. Buy one and it comes with an OK selection of bits, they might even fit your driver.
