With just a half-tank of fuel, there was a strong gas-odor when I got out of the truck today. Coming back a half-hour later, there was a *puddle* of fuel under the truck
My '78 uses the setup with the rollover check-valve, which involves some big hoses and some small hoses running over the left wheelwell. One of the small metal tubes had crudded itself all up, so I had to bend up a new tube (thankfully, it was regular-old 3/16" line) and blow out all the vents.
With the small size of that tube, it's hard to imagine that this doesn't happen to just about everybody.
So, if you've got time and a late-'70's FSJ ('78 and '79 used this setup, at least), you might stave-off future problems by disconnecting and blowing-out the thin line at the rollover valve in the left-rear quarter (it's got a 3/8" hex on the fitting, and a 7/16" nut on the rollove valve that you'll have to hold still; it's kind of tucked up under there beneath the window).
I also took the time to replace the rubber hoses coming from the fuel-sender; scary what they looked like!!! That's something I should have done on day-one.
