Okay so my first rig was a 1977 J10 with J20 axles and i got it when i was 15, it had a 304 (i know not factory), T18 w/granny low, and a Dana 20 transfer, it was an awesome rig and was alot of fun until the motor blew, i jumped the gun and sold it and bought my Cherokee. So now i just found another J10 online that has a 360 and a T18, but i am not sure what transfer it would have or axles, and was wonder what types of things to look for as for what might cause me alot of trouble down the road. I know the general stuff like mileage, service records, reciepts and i was going to check axle sloppage while i was there, so any other advice on what to look for would be great. Oh yeah he only wants 1k for it, but i would have to get rid of my Cherokee. So you can probably understand my position.

j10s are cooler than cherokees, get it! :p

if its an 80s rig it is probably d44/amc20. if its a 70s rig its probably d44/d44. t-case behind a manual will either be a dana20 (70s) or np-208 (80s).

if you already have a fsj... think about the problems youve had with it and apply that to the regular list of things to check.

If it is a J-10 and a T-18 it is pre 1980 which would make it have a Dana-20 T-case same as what your 77 had. (J-20's were the only Jeeps with a T-18 from 1980 on)
