While driving to a club meeting my brake peddle almost went to the floor and I swear I heard a pop sound. Made it to the meeting and as I sat there looking at all the Jeeps I saw a shiny puddle starting under the drivers side before the axle. Much to my supprise the puddle was break fluid and lot of it. It appears the hard line ruptured and was making a mess. No tools so a hitch ball was used to beat the line behind the proportioning valve. Still leaked like a sive but at least I was able to make it home. The others were headed out to 64,000 acres to play. :( I just did not feel real good about trying to drive the 30 miles each way with only front brakes.

I have been offered some stainless line to replace the broken one. I have never worked with the stainless brake line...any suggestions?

Get a cheap tube bending tool - it's a hand-held chunk of pot-metal that has a rounded surface that you can bend brake lines around. This is really important when you go to bend the new line into place. It'll kink easily without something round to bend it over. It's less than $10 at a parts store.
Oh yeah, and make sure to use "flare-nut" or "line" wrenches (same tool, different names) on the brake line fittings. Otherwise they'll round off really easy.
Good luck!

Went through this 3 weeks ago and have nothing to add---Illegal said it best. Just make sure your line comes in straight to the proportioning valve. Flare nut between the line and the valve has to "feel" right, too, when securing them. Hard to explain, but I also had a leak there and a half-turn of a flare wrench solved the whole thing. Good luck. Brent

Picked up parts from NAPA, then between the rain and the #^&$%(*#&%$)&!@^%$#$* drive shaft I finally got the gas tank down. Then ran out of time so I guess I will work 15 minutes each day when I can steal the time. :(

Cow Killer:

Where'd you get those pre-bent lines? I need to replace the line that is on the rear axel, and I'd rather not bend it
