I was looking around online and was looking at some reiews of Lincoln lockers, and there was good and there was bad. and then I came across a sight that was talking about a Fozzy locker, which is kind of like a Lincoln locker. Except for your dont weld the Spider gears together. From what I saw in the pictures they weld inside the teeth and put it all back together. This will supposedly allow there to be some play going around corners. I have a sterling 10.25 inch rear end:drivin:. There aren't many choices and the ones that are, are really expensive. I was thinking about going this way beacause I have heard alot of people say that some lockers are unpredictable. I have a limited slip in it right now, and I don't know how much traction that will give in serious situations. I will do 50% on street and 50% off. Has anyone ever tried this, or is there any suggestions.:fsj:

that is how i welded up my geo trackers rear, just filled in every 2 teeth, there is about 1/4" of rotation before the welds hit the next set of teeth, so going around a corner it will rotate a very small and then its skips, not bad in my light little tracker but i dont know about a full size i would probably do a full on lincoln lock in a full size axle

did it, broke it. BAD. chunks of spiders thru the ring gear. makes bad bad things happen. i thought it would be great, and we used to do the same thing to Alfa Romeo diffs when i was working in the sports car shop.
got all the chunks out, de-burred the ring and pinion, welded everything that was left into one solid chunk and have been wheeling that axle for many years afterward.

Seem like it would just give the gears a running start when they hit the welds.. I dont see how anything good could come of it..
What kind of tires do you have? I chirped my MTR's around even the slightest of turns with my welded D60. Now I have bias TSL's, and they are so flexible, that I havent chirped once since I installed them.

ya seems like when they do meet you have alot more inertia behind it and that will break things.

i've never heard of this but it sounds like a bad idea to me unless you're running a 22R or smaller.

The size tires that I am running is 37 on hummer beadlocks. Should I just keep the limited slip, or can that be welded up into a lincoln locker?

With 37s I wouldn't Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogleyfoot around. You'll need strength and not quasi-possible strength. I'm not personally familiar with welding an LS.
I think it really depends on the type of terrain you wheel. Is it pretty extreme where you need to rely on lockers often? Seems like you've been getting by so far without it.
The cheapy in me says to keep the LS and wheel it. Later on you can take it out and sell it to someone who could use it or use it in another rig. Plus from the sounds of it you'll be putting alot of highway miles on it too. If that doesn't suit you take it out, get an open carrier and weld it then don't worry about strength issues anymore. Keep the LS or sell it afterwards.

Anyone that tries this and thinks it's a good idea should be punched in the face.
That is how my front is welded, a friends bronco, and a 79' F250. No problems yet but 4x4 is only used for slooo speed. In a rear application I don't think it would last long.

A spool or mini spool isn't that expensive, from around 20 bucks for a 9" mini to less than 140 for a full spool.

Bad idea, its puts TONS of stress on those tiny little spider gears. Which makes them go kaboom.

my dad ran a fozzy locked rear third in his nissan running 31's with a bagged 2.4L and it was cracked all over the place within a year. Definately wouldnt recommend this method to anyone! His replacement diff has been welded up solid for three years now with no probs on 35" tires.
I run 37 iroks and a 14bolt rear in my fsj, originally a gov loc diff posi which I gutted and welded up solid and it was daily driven for about a year like that plus wheeled fairly often, and now it's just my wheeler and has been abused hard, and I just inspected it recently and everything looks like it did when I first put it together.

Welcome back Andrew, missed your way with words.......not :D I do agree that fozzy lockers are not advisable though.
