Hey all, I'm attempting to replace the rear bumper in my '85 J-10. I have another one probably from a Ford or Chevy (a step type bumper). My right side mounting bracket is rusted and needs to be replaced or reinforced. Also the J-10 frame rails are wider then those others and the replacement bumper I have is designed for narrower rails. Any ideas on how to re-configure this bumper to make it work, I'm sure someone out there in Jeepland has had to do this, I'm interested if it is worth the trouble.
Thanks, HAPPY NEW YEAR

Roger, I'm sure it be worth it. There's only two types of bumpers that were on the J series. One was all metal and the second was from the 80's that had plastic endcaps. These endcaps have since rotted away or are useless.
If you don't have the tools or a welding machine, you may have to spend some money for a real welder to fab something up. I don't see it being awfully expensive.
One more word of advice, if you plan on doing a body lift in the near future add that extra inch(es) to the new fabbed bracketry.
Last thing have the bracketry made so you can bolt everything up not welded straight to the frame. If someone ran into you, the weld won't give so that leaves the frame to get the brunt of the impact.
Good luck and make sure you show pics of your finished project.
