I have a friend with a 90 cherokee. We have found hitch receivers at the junk-yards. Trouble is: how do they attach to the frame? Yes, there are bolts holding it on but they just turn round and round. I assume there are nuts inside the frame but how would you get a wrench on them? Do these nuts have arms welded to them to normally keep them from turning? If so, how would you retrieve them or install them? There doesn't seem to be any adequate access holes. If he buys a brand new unit then there will be an explanation to this. (At 6X the price.)

I've got two XJs with hitches. There are supposed to be captive nuts inside the "framerail" but I am going to assume that those are rusted out so they now turn. On aftermarket hitches you have to feed the carriage bolt through with a leader wire and it is held by a square piece of steel that locks it from turning. If the bolts just turn I think the best bet would be to take the torch to the bolts to get them off. By the way XJ hitches match right up to early Wag frames like they were made for em, just need to drill a few holes.
