Does anyone out there have any experience using an LSD in their front D44? I hear
lockers are not good up front for rain and snow, is the LSD just as bad?

I got one in the front. :D

It does still feel a little dicy on realy slick stuff. So anything less then a few inches of snow, I just leave it in 2 wheel drive.

Realy deep snow is great. Kinda feels like a boat planing out on water when you get halling butt.

Like anything new. Given a little time behind the wheel you'll get use to how it acts and feels.

I do run locking hubs in the front for daily driving in 2 wheel.

Forgive the vehicle difference, but my CJ has a front dana 44 with a powerlock set up tight. Frankly I am concerned with it being my daily driver now and the ice that will soon be here. I have had it for a long time and it had never tracked well in the slick stuff. MAJOR understeer in the slick. My wagoneer is open front and a weak trac-loc (scrap-loc) rear. It is a DREAM in the ice and snow. Starts, turns and stops very well. BTW, I am trying as best as I can to afford an OX locker. I currently can't stand my detroit locker. I'm tired of steering with my rear axle. If you want good inclement weather road manners, stay open diff. You can compensate with the open diffs by knowing how to use your brake pedal and having a winch, chains ect. Traction aiding differentials simply don't do as well on slippery roads. I'm sure somebody will counter me on this but thats my story and I'm stickin to it!!

Won't it not matter if I am running unlocked hubs? If I have a LSD or Locking front can't I just lock one hub? How do I get the best of both worlds????

You would be amazed how one wheel getting power can steer you all over the place. Wana have fun, get on some ice, unlock one hub, step on the gas, then promptly let off...You will see what I mean. Some day I might tell the story of the Rubicon, busted axle, failed power steering and the polluted shorts....Seriously, if you want the best for icy crappy roads open diffs rule. If you wheel your wag on trails, well then set it up for that. They can be driven on slick roads, but you have to pay alot more attention. It can even be fun. Providing theres no cops around and you have plenty of gas in your tank... I reread our posts and had to edit. You asked how to get the best of both worlds. Well I am going to buy an OX locker. Flip a lever and an open diff instantly turns to a full tilt locker. You can buy an ARB or any other of the new units on the market. Thats how you get the best of both worlds. It costs but whadya want really??? It gives you choices. I'm going this route when I can afford it. It sounds like you would be a good candidate for a selective differential of this type. I'm excited about it. I'll post when I get it. Anyway....

Thanks for the advice, I was hoping an LSD was not as bad as a fully locked diff like a detroit or lockright. I have a while to think about it till I re-gear the axle. I'd have to save lots of pennies to get "the best of both worlds" but u never know:)
