View Full Version : steering stabilizer part #
Need to finish up some small details before daily driving begins. Need steering stabilizer for the 1970 wag. Had one on there when I started all this so I have the brackets (they look factory, one on top of the left spring pack that is the loop mount and the bracket clamped to the tie rod that is a pin mount). My Rancho catalog lists a 5404 for the 74 and up wagons but nothing earlier, it also lists a 5403 for the earlier trucks. Anyone got a part number or recomendation. TIA
Tad, sounds like the earlier type. The 74 and up have an eye/loop at each end that go over a stud on each bracket. The earlier dampners just have an eye at the shock/housing end and the rod end doesn't. The movable cyl rod on the early type is threaded at that end and goes through the mount and bolts on that way. I'd order the early type 5403 for the trucks. So long as you stay within like years/type the dampners are the same for either the Wags or trucks.
-joe,
That's what I'm thinking too, It should have what's called the EB1 bushing on one end for the 5/8" stud by the spring pack and the S1 3/8" stud/pin on the other end for the bracket on the tie rod. I just can't seem to find any verification of what's on the ends of the RS5403.

I have one sitting on a shelf that I haven't installed yet, waiting on the rest of the steering parts to do it all at once. It's a Pro Comp ES2000, 10 stage valve, 5/8" piston part #217510. One end is an eye, the other end is a stud. Bought it for my '76, but I actually hadn't pulled it out of the box until I saw your post.
Maybe you can cross that # over if that sounds like the right one.
Stolen76,
Thanks I'll play around with the part # and see what happens.
