Has anyone done or does anyone know someone that has taken a full size cherokee or wagoneer body and put it on a 4x4 dodge cummins frame. I'm am looking to make this swap and wanted some pointers, if there are any to be given. I have a '98 dodge cummins 2500 4x4, but I need to know any secrets that could help, if any(electrical, frame shortening, body alignment, etc.)
Thanks,

Dodge wheel base is longer and wider than a Cherokee or Waggy. You'll need to shorten and narrow it. I would just put the motor in your Waggy and do a little sheet metal tweaking. Oh, and beef up your front end. There is more to it than that, but that is a start!

I too have a '91 GW that I want to put a disel in and need direction on which engin and if there is any one here in Metro Atlanta, GA that can do the work. I'm looking at the new diesel from MB and the new power stroke at Ford also have a few old 300D lay'n in the shade but don't think they have the Hp to move the GW.

My feelings on it are a a little different , I would perfer to have suspension brakes and a frame that was designed to handle the weight of the cummins. A body swap is certanilly no more difficult than and engine /tranny /t-case swap. This swap has been featured in a recennt copy of diesel world magazine and it worked out great. As for my project , the frame has been shortened 21 inches , boxed , and new cross member fabed. The body is off the wagoneer and ready for a test fit. I did determine that the engine has to be moved back 6 1/4 inches to allow adequate room. ( if using a second gen frame the enging can stay in it's original position .. at least that is what the article in Diesel World said)
As far as width goes the frame is close ( depending upon whare you look and the track width is a lot wider , XJ flares will fix that nicely.
I will try to get some photos up when the body sits on the frame with the engine moved.

Speaking of Diesel,
Sure the Cummins is a great engine. But wow, with all the modifications needed, I'm looking at the GM Diesels.
Has anyone actually written something about swapping in a GM Diesel? I'm hoping for a 6.5 TD in the future for my GW. It would be great if there was a parts list & small write up on what needs to be done ;)
I noticed in one of the mags this month (or last month) the "Ultimate Adventure" vehicle is a new JK 4 door, and they are doing a swap much like what is being described here. Putting the new JK body on a newer Dodge frame, looked to be a 1-ton with the Cummins. Lots of work...
