I recently bought an extra rear seat for my GW. Anyone run an extra seat in their rig (seating 9 anyone)??? I was thinking of rear facing this right behind the current rear seat...

Why not? LOTS of older land yacht station wagons did it...makes more sense to do it in a heavier duty rig (not that those old boats weren't HD! LOL)

I was thinking the same, but unless the rear-facing passengers have had their legs amputated, it's going to be a TIGHT fit. :o
I would adapt the rear-seat from a newer Wrangler ('02-'06 TJ), which I believe has just floor-brackets to mount the fold-and-tumble rear seat. Then put some belts on the stock anchors in the floor, and you'd be good. That will give you decent leg-room, but I would also think of reinforcing the rear tailgate, as anyone in that rear seat in a rear-end crash is going to be a goner!

mounting it at the opisite side of the wheel well same hight putting them back to back - you would have to get into the third seat from the tailgate

For as often as the third row would be used, I wouldn't mind the kids climbing over the seats from the back door...
I haven't laid this out yet, would it realy be that tight of a fit in the back? Not that I am planning on adults riding there, but still would like it to be comfortable for the kids.

A Jeep tour outfit in Salida, CO uses old Wags. They move the spare tire to the roof, cut & weld a footwell in the rear floor, and install a pair of side-facing jump seats.

I have an extra 2nd row seat, and I have test fit it into the rear as a rear facing third row... Leg room is tight, but for munchkins doable for short stints... You have no cargo room when you do it, so it is only for in town type of things not road trips, so definantly I think it is an ok option. It is nice too for picnicing, as you can open the tailgate and instead of sitting on the tailgate itself you can plop up into a comfy seat....
I doubt the old station wagons had much more room in their third row rear facing seats, so I am not too worried about it, and while it is a nice extra, it isn't going to get regular use. If I needed regular use of a third row seat, I would be looking for a different vehicle.
I haven't mounted mine yet, I was planning on using the stock second row seat brackets through the wheel wells, and then doing some kind of custom thing for the front brackets... But I have been having a horrible time removing the wheel well seat bolts from the parts truck... so that may change..
here are the other options..

Says they can make one for wagoneers, not sure if they mean the fs or the baby...

they use a standard 2nd row seat flipped around, not sure of the bracketing
Another option mentioned a few years back was to use a rear seat out of a Mitubishi Raider I believe. The real short wheel base model.
I looked at one in a junk yard a couple years ago. It'll hold 2 & has a mostly flat floor mounting frame that includes the buckles.
My thought at the time is that floor mount fasteners could make removal and reinstallation easy, plus I could adapt the same seat to also similary fit the back of a pickup...

Is it just me, or does that "custom 3rd row seat" look like a recovered Wrangler rear seat? If it's not, I bet one would work!

Fab up a 2-way tailgate (there was a thread about that a while back)
w/ seats like SJ described, something like this:

We had a 65 or 66 Country Squire wagon when I was a kid set up like this, pretty comfortable as a kid, even with football gear on.

Check out this link, not sure where he sourced these seats from, or if it's something that would ever be made avaiable to the public, but being able to switch from front to rear facing seems pretty cool!
