Are you getting fuel to your fuel pump from the tank???

confused too...
vacuum is a product of a running engine - what is to check when engine is off?

So you put a fuel hose in jug full of gasoline, then connected the other end of hose to the fuel pump inlet - right?
then another hose from the fuel pump outlet to an empty container - right?
Turn over the engine and no fuel is pumped?

Is that correct?

sorry for the confusion, ok lets try and clear this up. im not pumping any gas from or to anywhere. bought a new pump and line, put an inline filter in. didn't work? so i thought the tank was clogged or something, disconected made sure line was clear, put in the jug of gas. still no fuel. bought another pump, same prob. have i just bought 2 bad pumps in a row? or is there another prob? me being a newbie, seeing all the talk about the acc. pump. thought i might a a vacuum leak??? my fault there!

I think I need a cup of coffee or something....where did you put the jug of gas...in the tank, or did you put the fuel line in the jug.....

OK... it is a mechanical fuel pump - right?

Simple machine - if it is installed correct (pump needs to be right side up and the pump lever needs to ride on the cam lobe) and if the inlet/outlet lines are conntected correct ...it will pump fluid when the engine is turned over to actuate the pump.

If no fluid is pumped when engine rotates - check all the installation and connection.

If all above are correct and still no fluid... likely the pump is bad. Getting two bad pumps in a row is rare... but it could happen.

IMHO - double check installation and connection. Be sure the intake line is compelte immersed in fluid - then try again.
IIRC... Haynes has decent troubleshooting guide for mech fuel pumps.
