I am in the process of doing the brakes on all four corners. I have done the rears before, but this time I am replacing everythig back to the backing plate. (self adjustment spindels seized and did very bad things inside the drums)
On the fronts, I have replaced the pads before, but I have not had the rotors turned, hence my question. . .
How the (&^$$@I does one remove the )&*%^^$^)((*&* Rotor / hub assembly From the (*&%^%)* spindel?????
Sincerely in a most tired, dirty and greasy way,

Remove the wheel, the caliper, the hub cover/cap, a couple snap rings, the big Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley nut, then yank.
That big-a nut requires a special big-A socket that has four little prongs coming out the end...I think the Fords use the same one...it is commonly available at the local AP store, but costs like $17-$25
It's a good tool to have around, but a little spendy for a dad-bern socket
Anyway, it is quite an involved process, but the good news is that you will have the opportunity to clean out your hubs, regrease/inspect your bearings, etc. Also, if you have never been in there, how will you know what to do when you bust something on the trail and need to do a trail fix?
IMHO, it is better to first experience it in the driveway....then later it comes a lot easier on the trail, in the rain, in the mud, on rocks, on hills, in bushes, etc.

There appears to be another ring behind the nut. It is fairly thik and has a series of holes evenly spaced al the way around it...
Does that have to come off as wello, and how do you get it off??

The ring with holes in it just slides off.

That would be even better!!!
But that means that the Big-A nut was the one I spun off by hand. Does that indicate problems???

Removed cap
removed clip ring
removed thing-ie (Big Ol' nut)
removed metal sleave with slot in it
Now visable, ring around spindel with about 20 holes evenly spaced around its circumference. What appear to be bearings visible beyond that
???

youre there. use a piece of wire to hook the ring. BTW,there should have been 2 big nuts. i went thru a lot of time and trouble to get the spindle nut socket and got the wrong one from pep boys. i ended up using a screwdriver and a hammer to do the job

There is a lock nut, the slotted washer, then another spindle nut that you use the pronged socket on. After that, mine just wiggled off.
You did remove the wheel, right?????

Okay, from the seal out:
Inner bearing
Outer bearing
Bearing nut (this one holds the whole assembly on and has a little pin on the outer-side, to line up with the locking ring)
Locking ring (is keyed for the spindle shaft and has many holes in it to mate up with the bearing nut)
Bearing nut (standard nut, no pins or anything; this keeps the locking ring in place)
Hub
Snap ring
Hope this helps!

OH,OH!! There may be another snap ring!! There is a large one that fits in the groove on the I.D. of the rotor. Some Jeeps also have a snap ring on the axleshaft itself, but it sounds like you are beyond that point, anyway.

I have one of those big sockets with the 4 prongs if you need it. I have completely replaced the auto hubs with manual lock out hubs. I also have the book that shows how to do it. I'm sure you could persuade me to borrow it if you ask really nicely. smile.gif
