SOA and 4" lift springs? that will be stupid big. minimum 42" tires for that.
im soa with 2" rancho lift springs running 42's and i think its a little too tall for my tastes.
it all depends on what you wanna do and what tires you are gonna run. you need to base your decision on your tires. that will tell you how much lift and what axles to run. SOA should get you some 38's under it with some trimming but dana 44's dont like 38's,

Stock springs SOA with a little flare trim & you can run 38" without rubbing.

If you're gonna be running it on street sometimes i would never go more than soa and 38s and even on the trail with soa and 4inch springs and 42s i dont know if i would be climbing anything.

do you have the flares still? hell, you're just over there on the east side... i wanna see this monster! i'm planning soa on 2" springs and i'll just fill the wheel wells with what fits, probably 38's.

I've got soa + 4" springs up front, and 63" springs w/relocated mounts out back and it handles just fine. If your building it for the mud up here the higher the better, within reason. Actually with the soa and 4" lift you will still be lower than most chevy's or fords with a 4" lift and bigger tires. It's still quite stable, but then I'm using wider than stock diffs. Dennis

If you go that tall then you have to get the bigger tires to go with the more lift. So if this is a trail truck the lower the better and the bigger tire you run the more strength you will need in your drivetrain. If you run anything bigger than 35s on you D44s then start lookin at breaking axle shafts and start lookin to do a 1-ton axle swap with anything larger than 38s.

i might be interested in the lift springs if you aren't going to use them....
hey dennis, good to see you still kicking around here.

BRUTUS was a SOA and 4" lift springs and he is running 38s on a j10 with a 60/14 combo. anything 38 and bigger i'd run 1 tons

yes i want to keep the flares i was only going to run a soa with 35's and the dana 44's for dunes and trails., then, i saw the rig with 38.5's on a soa w/ 4",
was thinking of moving the rear springs under the frame.... that would push my height off a bit lol
so the i would need the 4" in the front to level it off....
i was going to put the axles under it to day and start finishing the drivelines and t-case work but my grinder died last night so i came to a stopping point..:banghead:
:( its not a monster yet stopped working on it in 05- now im back in OR to getrdone , it will be tho
:D this post started as 1/2 joke but i think it will show a lot of interesting lift view points

NOPE... needs 49's! :D
As mentioned by Jeeping... here is Brutus (stupid big I know) on 4" springs and SOA and 38.5 TSL's.

I can personally attest to the fact that my hood is no higher than any STOCK F**d superduty hood. I love how stable it is that high... of course I added about 600# of unsprung weight so that really helps too.

I said lift it, bigger is better but you need one tons to complete it. for strength and width. Most would say my truckis too tall.
Is this stupid big?
I like it.
Just moved from New York doing mostly muddin' to Colorado so it is going to be used a bit differently when I get it out here. It is still in NY and I don't know how I am going to get it out here but maybe it will need to be a little lower for the trails out here.

It is SOA with 4 inch springs and a 3 inch body lift which will come off because it is the cheaper and easier way to bring it down even if it won't help with center of gravity as much as dropping the suspension. It is on a 60/14bolt so it has a little added track width over stock which definately helps with stability as well as clearance from the springs when turning. But I think that a 4inch w/ SOA and no body lift on 40's with a little fender trimming and wider axles was a good choice just haven't run anything but flat muddy trails so far.

I have SOA with the stock flat springs and a 3" body lift and lots of trimming, I can barely fit the 35" tires on 10" rims because of the flex I get from my springs, and it's stable enough for the trails out here in CA mostly rock crawling, and a little bit of sand dunes.
I would ditch the body lift if I could stretch the wheel wells to fit the tires.
My waggy's hood is still the same height as my K5 stock on 33" tires.

I have 4" springs, SOA, and (i know) a 4" body lift running 38's on my j-10. Plenty of room in my uncut fenders. Stable as can be.

You have an odd idea of stable. I take it you live in an area without any mountains? That much lift would scare the hell out of me on the trails we have here.

ok ther u go:D
i have 10" of space from the top of tire ( 28") to the fender flare... so im thinking 36" tires with no lockers untell i can afford 1 tons then ill want 3" springs and 38.5" with arbs.. thats the new plan i think...
ran into a prob ... on my front axle one of the new spring perch's has a 5 degree side slope to it will that be ok or do i need to grind it flat?
BRUTUS
08-20-2007, 10:28 AM
I think I would grind it flat! You can get a miriad of problems with a sloped perch. Flex would be better one way and worse the other way... more prone to the pin hopping out of the perch... nasty!

right now i have 12" of space between the top of tire and the fender on 42's, but i have my fender flares cut off. i think its too tall and unstable. id like to know what everyone else has? im looking for around 8". i have a shackle flip on stock springs with an AAL in it. i plan on removing the add a leaf and see how that sits i prefer a low COG

Mine is SOA front, shackle flipped rear, stock springs, cutoff flares. I have 11.5" between the top of my 35" tires & the bottom of my fender wells.
