I have a 79 Cherokee w/ a 401 V8 and T400 and a Quadra-Trac T case w/ the Mile Marker conversion. It doesn't shift into 4x4 when selected because the vacuum lines are messed up. Is there a cable actuator conversion available? Is this a reliable T case? Would it be better in the long run to convert to a different T case? I'll be living near the Grand Canyon and this rig will be used for towing and backwoods exploration. I'm also thinking of installing Superlift 4" Super Ride springs. Are they a good choice?

The q/trac did me well for many years but as I slightly abuse my rig and had too much gear in low range I went to a D20. I think the Q/trac is the best of the chain drives and since you have the part time kit you have the best of both worlds with good low range and part time fwd. Either run new vac line or replace the diaphram unit or both if needed and you should have trouble free use for many years to come. Unless you come by a cheap parts truck the cost of going to another t/case is not justified.

I'm with bob - might be nice if you run across one dirt cheap, but if it's maintained and you keep an eye on the chain slop, the thing is dependable and hard to break. my 2 cents.

Alright. What about a cable actuator to eliminate the vacuum system? Does Posi 4x4 make one?

I saw a heavy duty cable with a metal T-handle in the "help" section at the local Pepboys. You could probably fabricate a cable actuator for the QT using one. However, I agree with Jeepbob and Rahmby about the vacuum setup. It works well, so there is no particular reason to change. The only thing I did with mine, other than replace all of the vacuum hoses, was relocate the switch to the dash.
