So I started sanding down the GW yesterday and it amazed me how quickly I was at the metal, my hood was pretty bad with the orange peel look so I wanted to take it all the way down. My question is since it was so easy to get to the bare metal should I do the whole thing that way or will it make a big difference one way ore the other?

as look as you get off what you can with how your going, you'll be good. you can take it down to bare metal if you want. as long as you have a solid base to start with when you start to prime it, you shouldn't have a problem.

i've got 3 different colors on my truck and the primer coat. all i did was take off what would come off and start from there. i wich i only had one coat of paint to deal with.

The only time that I would take it down to the bare metal is when you have rust. So long as it's smooth and the paint you're using is compatible over the old paint you should be fine.
