On my wifes car, it keeps getting these massive piles of white powder on the battery cables and post. It gets so bad, that it eventually interferes with the ability to run and start. It is a new battery and alt seems fine. My Jeep, truck and tractor all have old batteries, and I never have this problem. Just the Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley ford. Thanks, Dennis

it is caused by out gasing next time you clean them go to your local auto parts and pick-up some anti corosian washers or clean them real good and put a layer of greese on them that is the old way works good and lasts as long as you don't wipe it off and is not just a ford problem

I always thought that meant there was in a short in the system.

Use a gel cell battery like an Optima, you'll never have that problem again.

I will try. It's funny, cause it only happens to this car. No other car I have or have had has ever done this. I still blame Ford, casue they made total junk from early 90's to at least 99. At Ford, it's QAUNTITY thats job one. Ask anyone who works the line. Thanks, Dennis

What is the output of your wife's alternator? More output equals more acid excitment in battery to cause more gas to corrode cables.

poor ground connections also can cause this problem. I agree with the felt washer thingy, they do work.

If you can find some of the washers impregnated with a chemical buy those. Wally world sells some called noco. Buy those also they sell a kit with noco spray it is red small can like five bucks tops. Clean your posts and terminals really good. Use a pocket knife and scrape the inside of the teminal until it is shiny. Put the impregnated washers on. Reconnect your battery cables. Spray noco red spray heavily on posts and terminals. Done recheck about every 3 months...
I work at a battery shop this is what i do for a living. That will work wonders for you.

Lead Acid Battery terminal posts incorporate a radial gland seal that will often get cracked due to torque applied to the battery posts or an inadequate design of the seal.
Electrolyte leakage or outgassing may (and apparantly is from your description) then occur.
If it is indeed a new battery, it should be replaced for free, it is either defective, or has been damaged by torqueing of the battery posts, thereby damaging the seal.
This happens more often than people realize.
