I know, vibrations are to be lived with, especially good ones. Here's mine;

Between 75-85 on the freeway, she begins a soft vibration that feels like it is tied to wheels spin, however it is not the front, and does not feel like balance. I will have the rears balanced, but I am wondering? U-joint, rear end, anything else? This is somewhat new, rather sudden, notn too noticeable, but I feel it in my seat, not hands. No other noises, and it abates as I slow to 60-65.

I have read up in the archives, and I guess my main question is will a failing U start a soft high speed vibration?? Mine 'seem' ok, but.......

It *might* be the CV in the front driveshaft. Worth a look anyway. Mine caused some funky minor vibes, when it slowly died.

Good idea, is the front CV active when not in 4x4? I have a np229 (84 GW)

yes, the front cv joint is "active" all the time. active meaning turning. it is not under load when in 2wd however. with the system you have, everything is always turning in all modes, but all the stuff that comes out of the front of the xfer case is being driven by the front wheels in 2wd mode.
