Damage toll so far is broken/bent grille (was NOS), bumper, radiator, trans cooler, fan shroud, fan and clutch, and everything completely soaked in antifreeze. There's probably more but I can't tear into anything until we get with the insurance company. I've only got 75 miles on the new engine. Never even got to open it up. :(

a deer only did that?! Too bad for all the internal (and apparently expensive) stuff) that got hurt. That's a sweet Jeep!!!
Methinks you need to add a HD brushguard my friend. Sorry to hear/see this :(

Anyone know how to get anitfreeze stains out of cast aluminum? My brand new air gap intake looks like crap now. At least it didn't get the fenders or hood, that'd really suck. Btw it was a fawn, still had spots. Didn't know something so small could do so much damage.

That just sucks... :(
Even with a strainer you can get some damage too... My old factory brush guard was all wavy from straining a doe at 60 a few years back. The grill still took a crack in the plastic center too.
Sorry to see that. :( On the bright side I guess you didn't damage that gorgeous paint work you laid on it. Good luck with the ins company.

:( that sucks !
try some oxalic acid toned down with water, or oxalic acid is found in products like CLR ( calicium, lime and rust remover ) to clean your intake
still a beautiful ride, now its just got character :D

Sorry to see this happen to such a fine ride but just remember, it could have been worse, much worse.

Wow! I'll add my "that sucks" and "glad it didn't touch the sheet metal" post too.
But I'll also say 55MPH? And that's all it did?? You're lucky you were driving a beast like this instead of a Mazda or something. :fsj:

I consider myself lucky it wasn't worse. I saw it coming and locked up the brakes but didn't swerve. I'd rather try finding a new grille than a new truck. It happened about 100 yards from my driveway. My family heard me coming and then lock up the brakes. They were on the way before I could turn on my cell phone. The pics don't show the full extent of the damage. It pushed the radiator all the way into the fan. I filed my claim with Hagerty online today so we'll see what happens.

Good for you thats all that happened, a friend of mine rolled his bronco when he hit a buck at 50 mph up in pollock pines. He had tens of thousands in his rig and totaled it and broke his back also. His 10 year old daughter was in the passenger seat and walked away thank god.

Larry, thanks for the offer on the grille! What kind of shape is it in? I've got a spare one kicking around but it's not all that great. Depending on how nice yours is I may take you up on your offer.
On a positive note, it looks like the insurance is going to take care of everything. They said to get a quote from a shop and they'll cut me a check for that amount. What I do from there is my decision. I can fix it myself and keep the extra for labor or have the shop fix it.
As far as the deer, it was pretty mangled. I threw it at least 30-40 yards.

It's pretty good.
I had to choose between it and the razor.
I'll take some pics of it tomorrow and post them here.

Glad you're ok. Good job holding straight, pretty strong instinct to swerve in that situation. Nice the insurance is working with you, had to fight with mine a few years ago when I hit a deer, but my rig is nothing like your beauty.
Deer strainer would be right near the top of my list if I were you:)

If the the motors been running for a while, you can usually cook those suckers right after you nail 'em...you know, kinda like payback for messing up your truck :D

Not as nice as the deer killer grill was. But it's not to bad.
If we meet up, and you don't like it. No problem. Be nice to meet a member of this sight.

Thanks Larry, I just got a lead on another NOS grille today so I may not need yours. If the insurance doesn't pony up I'll definitely take you up on your offer though. Looks pretty nice. After I get this thing going again we'll have to meet up sometime, I'd like to see (and hear) yours in person.
*edit* I must have been typing when Tonka posted. I'm game for meeting up with both of you guys. Give me a few weeks to get my truck fixed up and I'll be there.

That's such a sweet rig (saw it over on cardomain) and you put an incredible amount of work into it. But... count your blessings. It could've wiped out the front clip. Good luck in the repairs, hope it goes fast.

After a lot of thrashing I finally got it driveable today. Still have a lot of loose ends to chase down but at least I can drive it now. I need to get new headlights, fix a few wiring issues, and do a lot of cleaning and polishing. The bumper and grille work for now but I'm getting new ones soon. Here's some current pics.
