Trans 2nd to 3rd slips

My '91 GW tranny operates perfectly when cold, but once warmed up, it refuses to shift up to 3rd gear while in DRIVE. Under 50 mph, I can manually drop the shifter into 2nd and then shift to DRIVE to get 3rd gear.

Do I need a band adjustment?
