i got my 304 in, and was pulling it all apart for rebuild, and found the no.7 piston broken in the oil control ring land. it looks like it was broken from the inside out. any ideas on hoe this would happen??

Was it below the oil-control ring or between the 2nd and oil ring?

it was broken down in the oil control ring land, and below the land on the skirt

Doesn't sound it was detonation. Does it start near the pin? It may hav been over-reved...

it is not cracke close to the pin, but starts in the land.
