These are a set of internal spline Warn "Lock-O-Matic" locking hubs. Lotf of the early model jeeps run the external style (where the hub is held on with bolts) But it was not untill about a year ago I found out they made them in internal style when I saw the ones in the pic. These are on a 60's model K5 blazer. (I think 60's, it has the rounded body, I know nothing about them) But these or the truck are not for sale. I have been searching for a set ever since, and so far have come up empty handed.
Just wondering if anyone here has seen any or know where any are? Junk yards around here dont have anything old enough. Just wondering if any one has happened to run up on a set while digging through their local junkyards.
Thanks!

Now I admit I'm not an expert on them, but what is the difference between the Lock-O-Matic versus these:

In the free setting the lock-o-matics operate like an auto hub, no need to get out and lock them for minor stuff but could be manually locked for serious stuff. They will freewheel if run in the auto position and will not supply compression braking going downhill in free.
Had a set on my 75 J-10 in the early 80's till I got seriously stuck and proceeded to blow a hub completely off when the front got traction. In lock all power is transfered through 6 lugs on the back side of the hub to the internal splined portion of the hub, not the strongest setup. Replaced them with a normal locking hubs, no more strength issues.

Like said above, They will lock themselfs in. Lets say your driveing around and you need 4wd for just a bit. Instead of haveing to get out and lock in the hubs, just shift into 4wd and they will lock in. Once you get done doing what your doing, they will un lock once you shift out of 4wd. Now for normal 4wd lock them in, that way you can get compression brakeing in 4wd and the hub will not have to un lock then lock back in if you shift from drive to reverse.
I have a set of the external style on my '60 CJ-6 (my first jeep, still have it in storage) I love them, and I want a set of the internal spline ones for a D44 (not for my cherokee that getting the D60) but for another project.

Hey JeepsandGuns I think I saw you driving through Vinemont a few weeks ago. Have you seen that old Waggy behind that dentist office up there? It may have those hubs on it.

Humm...probably wasnt me. I havent been to vinemont in a good while, probably several months. I stay pretty close around town in the cherokee, the 401 drinks too mutch to drive it more than on the weekends.
Humm... are you talking about the red and white one that sets next to a red house thats just off 31, and is opposite of the big orange and white water tower? If thats the one then I have stoped by a few times trying to talk to the owner. I stoped by and knocked on the door but no one ever came, I did that about 2-3 times one week and finally on the last day there was a note on the door that read "night shift worker sleeping, do not disturb" I havent been back since. And that was a couple years ago. I didnt walk around and peek at it too mutch, but I do remember it was a cherokee (narrow track, 4 door) and it has a manual trans. Dont know year range as I didnt wal around front to look at the grille. Mabey I should stop back by...
So you ever sell your J10, or did you decide to keep it?

That is the one. I'd like to see it sometime. No I chose to keep the J10. I'm about to pull the trans out to be rebuilt. I'm going to make it my DD. I need a larger truck to pull my camper than my bronco. I figure that the J10 will be easier on gas than a 454 would be.I have a friend who lives near that cherokee. I'll see if he knows that guy. Maybe we can check it out soon. Do you live in the city. I'm right behind Wally World. We need to meet up sometime.

Sweet, if your behind wally world then you are pretty close. I am just up the road in good hope, about 1/4 mile off county road 222. A trip to walmart takes just a couple minutes. I am up for a meeting. Let me know if your friend has any luck. It did seem to be in pretty decent shape.

Good Hope High grad here. I have to work with him tonight so I'll set him on the trail. There is a 75 being parted out in the For Sale section that looks just like that one. Oh yea, I hear that there is a "FSJ Graveyard" just past the Tennessee line, maybe you can ind those hubs there if no luck here.

Are you "Mechanically inclined" in transmissions. I'm about to remove my trans and let my cousin re-build it, then re-install it myself. I'm of no use when it comes to transmissions. If you may want to help, I can cook a mean steak.

If its a manual I can help you out, I've rebuilt the AX15 in my YJ and I'm in the middle of rebuilding two nv4500's right now. But if its a auto, cant help ya there, autos scare me, never been into one. But if you need a hand pulling it out or putting it back in, I can help ya there.

Have you taken 31 to Hartselle lately? There is a nice Cherokee Chief at the car wash on the right past the store in Falkville I think.I just saw it thursday. They didn't post the price just a number.

Yes I did see that! I work in decatur and usally take 31 home (hate the interstate) I saw that thursday and hit the brakes to pull a u turn. Looks to be in pretty nice shape. Has a little rot in the floors, and looks to need front brakes. Plus rear window crank is missing. But otherwise good. I wrote down the number and called once but got no answer. Might try calling agan. But even if it was $500, I couldnt afford it right now :( But would still like to know how mutch.

I have just heard of the graveyard, but, on a trip I remember seeing a few on the west side of I-65. JeepsAndGuns, do you have a black Waggy? I saw one in town when I was leaving work tonight. It had a pretty good bit of lift to it.
Oh yea, Do you know of anyone needing a winch? I may be selling one soon. Getting a new truck, just pulled it off of the ole Bronco today. It is a Warn HS9500i. Not sure about selling it yet but considering it.

Ok, can I ask maybe a dumb question...
how does the Lock-O-Matic know when you have switched into 4wd vs 2wd?
How does a manual hub know what your xfer case is doing?

Its kinda hard to discribe the inside works. But basicly it works like this. When driveing normaly with the hub un locked, the axle shaft is not spining. So when you shift into 4x4, the shafts will start turning, and when they start turning the hub will lock itself in.

No wags, all I have is the cherokee. Only other FSJ I have seen around town is a stock white one, a touch on the rough side, but not too bad. Never seen a lifted black one.
As far as the winch, how mutch you asking for it? I will ask around at work. I have a warn M12000 for my cherokee, and a M10000 I am gonna throw on my YJ this weekend.

6022I'll see if I can't figure out how to post a picture of it here. I think I've got it up. I have not removed it from the brushguard yet. I've only used it twice myself.
I was told by an old timer to never "lock" my lock-o-matics; it would hasten their demise. I've had them on a '68 J-truck and now on my '73 J4000, a period of more than 25 years. Now I'm an old timer and I've never locked them, never missed the compression braking, and never had a problem with them. I love the way they work in 4x4 and don't work when in 4X2. I've also surprised some otherwise knowlegable people (who've never heard of them) by the free-wheeling aspects when not powered.
I talked to an FSJ'er recently who claimed to have 2 or 3 sets of them.
Want me to ask him to get on line?

Rod2, see what you can find out. They have to be the internal spline versions. If they are held on with bolts then they are the external style. I have the picture on the first page of what they look like. Thanks.
Casey, I think all the scouts used the external style hubs didnt they? I dont know mutch about scouts. But most of what I have seen from them were the external style.
