I wanted to say hi to everyone, as I'm new to the site. I'm doing a gear swap in my 03 Subaru WRX and while it's down I'm "driving" (aka fixing up... lol) my step dad's 74 J10. If I have the story correct, he bought it off a coworker about 3-4 years ago, noticed it was leaking fuel one day and the same day, the bed fell off. Well since then it's been sitting, 3-4 years later, it's now my project.
From what I could gather and from what friends have told me, it looks like she has the stock v8 with a carter carb, a nice edelbrock intake manifold, a chevy bed, a body lift, and what looks like custom dual exhaust with headers. I say custom because the pipe going down the center of the truck is completely ground down to a flat edge from rubbing on the drive shaft when the bed has a load in it (I hope it's just shot shocks, which I'm going to replace soon, so hopefully that's an easy fix). The only stock gauges working are the speedo and voltmeter. The previous owner installed aftermarket fuel, volt, oil pressure, and water temp gauges, but seemed to have never hooked up the fuel gauge. The steering is clunky when turning the wheel left and right.
So far, it has new motor oil, coolant, thermostat, fuel, fuel filter, a rebuilt carb, a new air filter, and it has gotten sea foamed in the engine and fuel tank (very fun stuff btw).
From what I could gather from searching the site I'm going to check the ground wire on the sending unit on the gas tank because it appears to be a plastic tank. Also, I'm going to check out the u-joints, eye bushings, and leaf springs to try and track down where that clunk is coming from.
Welp, sorry for the long post, just thought I'd be as descriptive as possible, and now for some low quality camera phone pics (sorry again). :-)
