I am getting ready to put a 401 into a YJ and I was wondering if anyone knew the width between the front framerails in a 70's or early 80's Wag. The reason I ask is I have the bolt on frame mounts from a Wagoneer and I was hoping to use them in the YJ if the frame widths are the same. I would measure myself, but I don't have my Wagoneer in town, and the wrecking yards are closed today. Thanks in advance.

Welcome. From the 76 TSM, the distance between the centers of the front body mounts is 32.40 inches. Looks to be the center of the frame rails. The width between, what looks like the lower bolt hole on each motor mount, is 23.04 inches.

I just swapped in a
360/727/208 combo into a '94 wrangler. The wrangler frame was 2" narrower than the wagoneer frame. This is an easy swap and goes much better if you have the whole waggy donor vehicle. I to used the bolt on frame mounts and just cut the engine to motor mount brackets down .90". The transmission bolts right onto the skidplate with a little bit of modification (notching out where the trans pan is for access, making the transfer case hole a little bigger, and drilling another slot into it for the trans mount torque bushing.). The front drive shaft is a bolt in once you swap the front and rear yokes with each other. I am using the cv front drive shaft out of the waggy for the rear after its cut down and re-tubed with thicker tubing. There's even about 3 1/2" more length to the rear length. The stock exhaust and y pipe even work with no clearance issues. Dennis
