I know it is off topic but oh well...

A friend of mine (A ford Master Mech) told me to unplug the vacuum line off of my waste gate on my turbo and it will allow the turbo to boost more, giving me more power.....

I did it and I want all of you with turbo's to do it as well, I think it worked, and worked well!

Is it for real or am I imagining it??? Do it and lemme know.

I just bought a programer from GlennTX so I don't need a power boost right now. You know of course that big power jumps can have unintended consequences.

Try lookin' here for turbo info. There are a lot of cool guys on the forumn who can answer anything you want to know

Andy, have you put a programmer on your truck yet? If so, does disconnecting the vacuum hose make your check engine light come on from overboost?

I might try doing it and see if it does anything.

NO Check engine light yet...I have not put the programmer on it yet. It is my work/personal tuck, and do not know if I need to with it. What kind of results did you guys see with the programmer??

Of course you need to! Especially if you tow anything whatsoever.
Once you do it you'll wonder how anyone drives one without a programmer. Only costs a couple hundred $$ and you'll not lose any fuel economy. I'd get either one made by SuperChips, cause they're easy to use and cheap.

I wouldn't do that. The wastegate is set to allow the turbo to only allow so much boost. Now taking the line off basically your wastegate no longer has control of how much boost your truck makes and I don't know much about diesels but in a gas engine this leads to overboost. Overboost can cause bad things to happen. One you lean out real bad because your stock fuel pump can't keep up thereby burning a hole in your piston. Or your engine boosts so much that it causes the heads to lift from the block a little and then you pop a head gasket. Or it simply is too much stress on the rotating assembly and you spit a rod out and drive over the crank as it is blown out of the bottom of the block. Do you have a boost gauge? How about an exhaust temp gauge? In the past on turbo vehicle I have hacksawed the wastegate rod in two and then threaded each end and used a coupler type nut with two seperate nuts on each end to keep it from turning after set. A shorter wastegate rod will allow more boost then a longer one. But you have to be careful and make sure you don't try to get too much boost because the wastegate spring only has so much tension and once you reach a certain boost level you may need a stonger spring.
