I just bought an '87 Grand Wagoneer--real nice, only 68,000 miles ($4000.00!), and I need a new set of shocks. The originals are still on it, and they're shot. Anyway, what brand would be most similar to the factory, stock shock? It's going to stay on the highway, so I don't need Rancho 9000's. Thanks!

Trust me on this one: Edelbrock IAS. After all the work I did on my Wag, I can honestly say not one penny was better spent than the nearly $300 a set of these shocks cost.

I'm presently driving Dutch's 87 Grand Wag with Rancho 5000 shocks, and it's just rattling my brain out. Stock shocks are cushy but lack the feeling of control that better shocks will give you.

Personally I would go for the Rancho 9000's, put a set on my '82 Chero 12 months ago and got no complaints. Truck is used mainly on a combination of dirt roads and paved roads so left on setting 2 and handling is solid / predictable, in fact has given the odd sedan a fright on a particular favourite winding road!. Cost here was $650 (Aus) for the set, money well spent I reckon.
