View Full Version : Won't come off high idle
Blue Woody

The carb on the Blue Woody seems to stick on high idle. I can "kick it down" but even after driving for many miles, when I pull up to a red light it's on high idle. Again, I can kick it down but this should happen automatically. Seems like something is just sticking but I've sprayed it with carb cleaner to no avail. My gas mileage seems to be okay (13mpg) but I know it's running rich due to a recent failure of the muffler (long story!). Any ideas? :(

Maybe a long shot, but my 89 GW was doing the same thing after a tune up, and after spending a bunch of time tracing vacuum lines and adjusting idle, it turns out I found the accelerator cable had frayed. $20 new part and it was fixed.

Darin- Where was it frayed? Near the carb? I guess I haven't looked specifically for that but it didn't jump out at me either. Thanks for the tip.

yep. near the carb. specifically where the actual cable slides into the plastic houseing that clips into the bracket that keeps the assembly straight.
mine exhibited the same symptoms. I could kick the idle down with a quick peddle stomp, but just taking my foot off would keep the idle close to where it last was.
Good luck.

here is my guess (or experience) dont know if it will help...
while spraying carb cleaner spray the base of the carb outside on the intake...if the idle raises its sucking air in one of the gaskets..
other is to check the elec choke the lil electric female . male connection on the passenger side of carb (on mine anyway)... hope maybe some of this will help...if not
happy hunting!
