Still trying to figure out if I want to get that 1966 J2000 !
I was just wondering how hard it would be to replace the 230
il6 with my 258 out of my 85 GW.Will the 258 bolt up to the
granny 4 speed and will I have to make motor mounts or will it sit in the ones there ? Will the GW axles go right in or if they are a lot different than the old style .

There's no easy swap for that engine except for the 226 Super Hurricane flathead from the Utility truck and such. The AMC 6 has nothing more in common with the 230 than, say, a Ford or Chevy 6 cylinder. You'd need to adapt the transmission and weld in new motor mounts. Chevy would probably be easiest - there's an adapter for that http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_c5.htm (http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_c5.htm)You'd still need to make custom motor mounts.

The GW axles are a lot narrower than the J-truck axles - not compatible.
