Just another typical week in the ongoing Jeep saga of "Drive a day and repair for a week". I spent most of yesterday putting the tailgate back together after swapping in a window motor from 1x1_Speed_Craig. I tried to roll it up but no luck so a little poke here and there with the test light and figure out the switch is bad. I called the dealership and unbelieveably they had the switch. So quick trip to town and back and now window is back in motion. (Thanks Craig!) So today I decided to do some highway time and stretch it out. After a few miles I begin to notice a faint roar that I put off as tire noise. A few more miles down the road and it gets increasingly louder so I pull over and do a walk around checking the hubs to see if one is getting hot. I happen to glance under it and the rear differental cover is covered in fluid and dripping onto the ground. My guess is the carrier bearings are going out. So once again it is grounded for repairs. I decided to go ahead and build both front and rear axles so that when I'm done the complete drivetrain will be new and then the wiring will probally catch on fire.

So how are your Jeep repairs going?

Been doing the drive a day repair a month since last november :banghead: What can I say? Im a glutten for punishment  First the carb, then the trans. went...then a hub...then some distributer gears...then pushrods...then a flexplate...then the rear axle...then more pushrods and a rocker...

Im gonna get everything back up and running...drive it a day then the QT is gonna dump, I just know it, its the only thing left that hasnt been replaced :o

I'm seriously thinking about converting to 3/4 ton running gear. The way I see it if I'm gonna build it I might as well build it heavy duty, right? The only thing I'm trying to figure out is which will cost more a divorce or the conversion expense?;)

i feel your pain Scott. it's like one step forward two steps back. but hay one day it will be brand new with all the new parts right  i sent the cherokee off to the paint shop over a month ago and opened up a can of worms when it was taken down to bear metal. lets just say when you see a little spot that looks like rust is under the paint that dime size spot will turn into a softball real quick  and i thought my boat was a money pit. hay anybody need a grady-white. :D :D

Baybilly, I tried to PM you a while back about my chrome stuff. I've found a 87 Wrangler that has the hard top/4.0/5 speed/with ac that has a bad motor. I'm bouncing around the idea of putting the 360 in it and if so the color scheme will have to change. Just as soon as I make up my mind I will box everything up and send it to ya.

Hey Scott, check first that it was just low on fluid in the rear diff...mine made a odd roar style back in 01 (my old 88 waggy)...just after having all new wheel bearings installed, turned out it was just a bad gasket on the cover...and low fluid, they replaced the gasket, and filled it and the roar was gone...(Oh and uh do it yourself..I paid too much)...

That stuff works great for chrome tinting windows too.

I have a throwout bearing to replace. Looked inside the hole and there's just a sleeve sliding up and back with nothing attached to it. Nice.

I was about to suggest that the window motor swap was a bear because he forgot to chrome the replacement.

Somebody on this site had a signature line something like:

Which is harder to find in your area -- a good jeep or a girl friend?

"Drive a day and repair for a week".

I hear ya man. Try it on 2 Wagons. Man if I have to look at another carb. it will be to soon. One of my wagon's parking brake isn't working and for the life of me I can't get them to work and because of it not working I can't get the thing inspected. Both leak from everything except the gas tank (knock on wood). I should be the oil companies customer of the year. I know it just takes time and money but I'm short on both.

The GW's choke is being weird, the high idle isn't working quite right, I'll have to mess with it a little more. I need to fix an exhaust leak at the manifold too, that's about it. Needs other little things but has been running strong without trouble all summer. I'll need to replace the brake pads and turn the rotors soon though.

The poor Cherokee has been sitting for a couple months now waiting for me to fix the leaking oil pan, flush the coolant, reassemble the e-brake, and get it inspected. I really can't wait to drive it, but I have no time since I'm working at a summer camp.
