I have this up for sale in the for sale forum and posted pics there, but thought I'd post em here too for those that aren't cruising the for sale forum.

Lowe's special satin black spray paint
I still have a few coats to go, but I really am liking the look. Whatever your opinion on spray paint, you have to admit it looks better than with the 5 different colors it had prior to the can-job...

Yep, here's what it looked like 4-5 years ago when I brought her home:

http://www.buildyour4x4.com/Hosting/Wart/76-J20-01.jpg

She was a non-runner with seriously banged up sheetmetal and a broken driveshaft. She now runs real nice with a new Edelbrock intake and Carter AFB, new RMS, all sorts of other new seals, repaired wiring, etc, etc, etc... I've actually got a lot accomplished on her, but considering that I have had it for so long, it is almost embarassing how little I have done...anyway, at least I can feel good that I resurrected one from certain doom at the crusher (which is the road it was headed down before I snagged it.)

Nice :)

I ran into 'problems' flat rattlebombing my J3k, it's next to impossible to get rid of those 'lines'. When I did the rambler, I used a rust prohibitive flat black and that came out loads better..also sanding the oxidized stock paint helps alot too, but you're past that. Also, the more coats you put on, the shinier it's going to get as it builds up.

Would love to take that J20 off your hands, but I'm not exactly keen on another ride to Idaho anytime soon  (sorry we couldnt stop by then, but needed all the time possible to get as far southeast as possible..)

ps..time to change your sig, bro :)

flat/satin black vehicles rock. they still look great and sleek but don't cry out for everyone saying "look at me over here! look at me!" nice job. i'm thinking about painting mine olive drab green (army green) and maybe a white star on either door or one on the hood.

It almost looks like my buddys 75 Chevy Flatbed but it's done with rubberized undercoating but they look very similar. Nice Job. It looks good. I'd drive it:thumbsup:

Awesome, sorry to see your selling it though. But sounds like you'll get another one soon enough.

Thanks for the compliments. I got all the parts and stuff added back on (except I forgot to reinstall the "J20" and "Jeep" logos.) I think it looks sweet, but the paint really let me down. You can totally see the paint lines even after I tried waxing it. I figure maybe with a powerbuffer they might come out? Anyway, it is cool to see this project finally put all back together.

When I painted the xj with krylon od green, I got the lines but it was the right color. When I repainted with rustoleum got no lines but the color was more of a forest army green. Anyways I like the flat black look of your truck.

to get the lines out you'll have to color-sand with like 2000 grit (super fine wet sanding). Spray paint is just that way. Make sure you strip the wax with some kind of cleaner before you sand or buff. Still, it looks tons better than multi color.

Thats a good looking rhino replica too, very well done.

I bet your neighbors are crying too... "Why didn't he paint that thing years ago" :)

I think it looks great. If you weren't halfway across the country, that truck would look very nice in my driveway :(
