Was wondering how these heads would work on a 83 360. Are 83 360 heads dog leg? What exhaust manifolds would I have to get? Here are the casting #'s.

304 and 360 heads are pretty much interchangable... depending on the year.

But why would you want to go down to 304 heads? I've got 360 heads on my 304...

I thought dogleg heads would be a improvement. Are the flow rates on dogleg heads better? Combustion chamber smaller? Just trying to get more out of it, till I can build a 401

HIGHER COMPRESSION WITH THE 304 HEADS,THE CHEVY GUYZ PUT 305 HEADS ON 350'S.

304's have tiny valves and smaller ports. Stick with the 360 heads and get higher compression pistons if you want more compression.

Or take the block to a machine shop and have it decked(shaved down 1 - 2 1/1000s).

From what I know all the V8 heads from '70 or '71 and up (304, 360, 401) all had dogleg exhaust ports.

Your 83 heads are already dog leg. No gain in replacing good 360 heads with 304 heads. You may get higher compression, but the valves are much smaller.

Thanks for the info. I used to be one of those chevy guys, and didnt know how the heads fit inline on the performance scale. Is there a head that is more desired than others?
