Sunday afternoon was a good afternoon! Wife and daughter left for Texas to visit the in-laws around 1:00 p.m. and that left me to find something to do for the afternoon. I had seen an ad for a good deal about a two hour drive south so off I went in the J10. I didn't take the Wag because I still haven't fixed the tailgate switch. Anyway after a quick stop to fill up with gas and another at O'rielly's to buy a quart of 10w40. (no, it doesn't use oil but it has leaked about a quart since the last oil change! The proof is on the garage floor.)
The only thing that caused a problem was the low freon in the A/C. I'm glad it was only about 85 degrees with low humidity. I took off down the interstate with both windows down and the back glass open. I haven't made a trip with the windows down like that in a long time. About an hour into the trip traffic came to a complete stop due to an accident about ten miles ahead. I got the word from the guy next to me who had a CB and decided to cut across the median and find an alternate route. He asked "does that thing have fourwheel drive?" I just said it's a Jeep and took off. I only got a little lost on the back roads of central Arkansas and the nice part is I ended up in Hot Springs where my mother lives and paid a totally unexpected visit to her... for supper of course! I filled up my tank and then the J10's and headed for home arriving back safely about 11:30 p.m. The trip was about 235 miles altogether and took about 8 hours including Jeep shopping and supper at mom's.
An afternoon well spent and thoroughly enjoyed. I even discovered that the J10 has a sweet spot in the torque curve at about 55 mph and it purred all afternoon without a problem. I put more miles on it in one trip yesterday than in nearly the last five years. Now,....where do I need to go tomorrow!
