I've replaced the springs and shocks (Bilstein shocks, ESPOO stock springs) and the next move is to replace the average Cooper Lifeliner tires.

What are your favorite tires for stock rims with no lift? I was thinking 235s instead of the stock 225s. I won't be offroad too often, but want abiltiy.

Do any of you have Dunlop Rover A/Ts or Pirrelli Scorpion A/Ts?

Thanks,

Max

i use 235r78x15 allseason radial. S.O. bought last set of 235 lts. they r loud. i'm climbing into my asbestos pjs. for road use the 235s are ok.they are quiet, they ride easy, they are cheap, they last if ya dont ride em too soft. igo in sand w/o difficulty. they are no good in mud or the woods tho.

Before I "upgraded" to a 1978 Cherokee, I had the Pirelli Scorpions on my '96 Land Rover Discovery. They were fine....a little better on the highway than the stock Goodyears, and alot less $$. Better Highway tires, not as good in the snow, not as good offroad and dont look as tough. Land Rover Dealer in MN told me not to get them....said they were crap and that they had been having problems with them (they put them on Range Rovers)....wanted me to buy the GoodYears from them (at like $230/each). Needless to say..... I bought the Scorpions...hehe...I dont like those guys at Land Rover.....but **** those Defenders sure Kick Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley!!!!

Hey Max, I don't know too much about the two tires you listed but I did notice you mentioned you had some Coopers on there now. Cooper has a pretty good 235/75R15 all terrain tire also. I can't think of what they call it but its a fair tire at a fair price.

Hey Bandit I think that's the "Discover" that you're thinkin' of if it's an AT type tire. I liked the old school Cobra's I had on my Cordoba (pre-cherokee days) and have heard good things from people 'bout their A/T tires. Heck for an all around, I'd say it'd be pretty hard to beat, unless you spend a ton for tires. Up here, they use Bridgstone Blizzak's in the winter(and yes they are KILLER on ice!), IF you have a chunk of money to spend, but if you're a poor-boy like me, ya go with something like a Goodyear UltraGrip Ice, or something with studs for a "stocker" that is!

Personally I have never had any problem with the General Grabbers. I had 33-12.50's (I know that is kind of big for your rig BUT)they lasted forever, had a good tread......and SAMS CLUB has'em....the 33's were 79.95 ea. so I would assume 235's or so wouldn't be any more..probably less. for an extra 7 bucks per tire you get lifetime balanceing and rotation......nails, icepicks, too low psi and a blowout...they don't care.

Got 275r78x15 Bridgestones on Wifey's GW. Not sure of style, but they are a good all round All-weather type of tire. Work real good in snow. Not sure about off-road(she don't do much froadin) http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Believe it or not, I've always had great results from Kelly Safaris--they ride quiet (for an AT tire, that is!), they track well, and they're relatively cheap. My dearly departed Cherokee had Michelin XC LT4's on it, and they were AWESOME! A little noisy on the highway, but in the woods/mines/gravel pits they clawed like my ex-girlfriend!

I've been using Pro Comp's AT tire. I am really happy with it. Its a 50k tire and it has treated me very well in the rocks. I would highly recomend it for those daily driver/weekend fun vehicles. Also, Peterson's 4Wheel & Offroad mag rated the Pro Comp MT tires as one of the best buys in a MT off-road tire. Its one of hte only MT tires to have sipings in them.

Anyways if you want a good street tire that works great off-road, go with the Pro Comp AT. The BFG All Terrain KO tires are really good too, but they are a little more pricey than the Pro Comp tires.

I have the Dunlop Rover A/T's on my GW now.
I thought I would experiment a little the last time I bought tires. Bad decision. I should have stayed with the tried and true BFG All Terrains. They look and drive great. I have had them on an Explorer, 4-Runner, and Nissan Hardbody. When these Dunlops wear out, I will replace them with the BFG's.
I have the BFG M/T's on my J-10 and love them. I know they cost more, but in my humble opinion, they are worth it.
Not to upset anyone, but stay away from the Bridgestones. They are "out of round right out of the box." A quote from a friend of mine who used to work in a tire store. My Nissan came with them and they sucked in the rain.
Good luck.

I'm using the Scorpion A/T's on my '88, but in the 30"x9.5" size (just slightly larger than the 235/75 size, but C-rated for higher load; they fit just fine, and look a bit more "butch"). I love them; great grip wet or dry, and they just churn through the snow like it isn't there. They are also quieter than the generic 235/75 all-seasons that originally came with the truck. So I can highly recommend them.

If your looking to do something on the "cheap", I have had good results using the Pep Boy Cornell 808, 235-75-15. I paid $ 150.00 including road hazzard. I have used the warranty two times and recieved the new tires with no hassle.

I will be switching to 33" X 12.50" tires soon.

I have 2 differnt brand tires, Yokahama MTs and Dunlops MTs, on my Wagon. They are worn and on the way out, to be replaced w/ the General Grabbers MT.
I had a Wrangler w/ The Cooper Discoverers and they churned it up pretty good through the ole pluff mud, not like my mudders I had, but not bad.
