My rear tailgat does not have any tension on it when I drop it down. Must I replace the tesion springs, or is there a method to increase the torsion? I had it apart today and think I have to replace them.
Thanks in advance.

wow i never heard of needing to replace the gate springs. my wag is pretty dilapidated, but the t/g springs are fine. they fit into a slot on the t/g and are clamped by the hinge bolted to the sill right? did one get loose somehow? hmmn,
i spose you could wind them up a turn. it may make the gate to open tho.

the TG on my "83 actually has too much tension. maybe because there is no carpet or rubber on it. smile.gif
is it really a problem? I mean you have to put a hand on it to get it open, couldnt you just keep your hand on it a bit longer?

Without any tension, make the tailgate really heavy for the wife. With the glass and motors in there, the thing is hefty.
