Finally!! :D after almost 3 years of sitting, my Chero is alive!!!. all that because of a cracked bell housing, destroyed tranny mount, and a the top cover getting all gumed up and not wanting to move. A few questions:

1)Ok, I have less than a 1/4 tank of gas. I did put fuel stabileizer and some of that fuel line antifreez stuff in the tank, should I just run it out or put in some high octaine fuel and run that.

2)also have a slow rear window, maybe just a good cleaning and lubrication?:)

3)door window seals, (the felt things) get them from BJ's? ;)

4) any type of floor prep before lining it with that bed or Rhino lining stuff?:)

5) does anyone have a set of 4 door locks and the key. May also need the rear window key switch and key. After three years, I have been unable to find the keys to the Jeep.:o Just have the ignition key because I have been starting it every other week.

Congratulations!

1) Add a fill-up of a good grade of gasoline, and you should be OK. Keep a sharp eye on your fuel filter(s).
2) Clean and regrease/reoil the regulator mechanism as needed, and make sure the switches and wiring are not corroded with age and Florida.
3) BJs is probably your best bet....
4) Make sure there is no rust or loose paint before applying anything. Best--but most time-sinky and elbow-greasy--is to remove paint and rust down to bare metal and start from there.
5) A good, competent locksmith with gray hair should be able to set you up with a good set of locks and keys--one would think..... At least that is how I solved the lock problems on my Wag. The best thing that could happen is that the locksmith had a good assortment of tumblers, and could arrange things so that your ignition key will develop the "shear line" needed on all the cylinders--voilą! One key fits all.

   Congrat's Zorm!

With less than a 1/4 tank I'd fill that puppy up with 93 octane and drive the snot out of it. Guess I'd go ahead and change all the other fluids if it's been settin awhile.

Can't help ya on the door locks and key. Bill prepped the floors in his Cherk before he herculined everything. Can't remember the name. It's out in the shop. I'll check when I get home and let you know.

Congrats on the resurrection! Mine set for two years and fired right up with the old gas in it. As for the keys pull a door lock and take to a locksmith. They can make a key cheaper and easier than buying and replacing the locks. I know on my 88 you just pull the metal plate inside the door jam that holds the lock in place and the assembly slides right out. No need to remove door panel.

correct me if I am wrong, but its the same key you use for the doors that you can also use for the rear window right?

Thanks folks, now just need to clean all the Florida crud off her.

Congrats, and yes on the key. I'm burning 2-year old gas but as soon as I get on the street, I'll fill up with a higher grade gas. It should not be a problem to burn the old gas in the summer if the high boiling components evaporated due to storage. Where you have to watch out is it will gum up your carb.

I am really kicking myself in the arse. Spent some time lookin for keys tonight, then washed the Chero, you really got to scrub to remove 2.5 years of grime.:D
I wasent too worried about the door keys untill I was washing back by the gas tank,......it was then I remembered I got a locking gas cap and the key was with the door key:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So, how can you take off a locking gas cap with out too much damage to the Jeep?

I'll clean out the inside tomorrow, need to try and find the 07 tag sticker so I can at least drive her to go get gas:o :banghead: :banghead:

I've removed a ton of locking gas caps with a screwdriver and a hammer. Just tap the screwdriver into the key hole and turn the screwdriver. If it doesn't work tap some more. Take to mind this is on locking gas caps that have the threaded gas cap, newer vehicles. As for the one you are talking about with the 2 prongs that need to come back into the gas cap houseing i've never done one of those but would bet it would work the same. I run a car lot and when we lose a locking gas cap that is the way we do it. It ruins the gas cap but if you don't have the keys for it what good is it really anyways.

thanks for all your help,
actually my doughter found the keys, there were in her room, she had them "because the Jeep will never run again".
Kinda funny, after that little conversation, she actually helped me take off the cowel and remove a ton of leaves:)
